Summer Skincare Staples

Whenever the temperature starts creeping up during summer, I feel the need to reassess some of my skincare choices and tweak a thing or two. In the last few weeks the temperature has not so much crept up as exploded into what felt like Sub-Saharan climates (I grew up in London - I'm a wimp, okay?). In light of the weather changes, I decided to shift around some of my skincare products and opt for some more summery choices.

1. La Roche Posay Toleriane Fluide - Whilst I tend to go for heavier face creams in the winter, I like to use very light moisturisers during the warmer months. This moisturiser is simple and contains few ingredients, making it a good choice for my sensitive skin. Makeup sits well on top of it too, making it an option for both day and night. If your skin tends to be drier, this might be too light for you, as it doesn't pack much of a punch moisture-wise, but for combination skinned gals this could just be a match!

2. Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster - Read: self-tanner. I'm not sure if I'm the only person who deals with this predicament, but whilst my body will tan fairly well and quickly, my face will consistently stay the same shade of white, come summer or winter. Predictably I end up with a strange combo of a bronzed body and glowingly white face - not the most attractive combination. That's why this product is the perfect addition into my summer skincare routine. It's a facial oil that you mix a few drops of into your normal night cream that will gradually give you a more sunkissed complexion. But be wary: once you apply this, blend, blend, blend!

3. La Roche Posay Serozinc - This is a cult classic toner and infamously difficult to get ahold of. As the weather has become warmer and I'm in the sun more, I've started switching this up with my exfoliating toner. Serozinc is a great one for calming down skin irritation, be it from a breakout or overzealous sunbathing. I'm currently on my second bottle and I have to say it's worth the hassle of tracking down. Not to mention that in summer it always feels good to use a cooling mist spray!

4. Garnier Miracle Skin Cream - Now this could technically go into the makeup category too, but I'm currently using it as the last step in my skincare routine in the mornings. This is one of those moisturisers that comes out white and has little bubbles in it that burst and adjust to your skin tone. It doesn't give much coverage at all but does manage to hide little imperfections, whilst still letting your skin show through and imparting a natural glow to your complexion. An added bonus is that this moisturiser also contains SPF 20, a vital factor in protecting your skin from the sun during the day.

So there you have it, those are all my current summer skincare staples. Now let's just hope that the summer weather lasts!
