Benefit Do The Hoola Beyond Bronze Kit Review

From left to right: Benebalm, Ultra Plush Lipgloss in Hoola, Hoola bronzer and Dew the Hoola.

As you may have seen from my UK beauty haul, I picked up the Benefit Do the Hoola Beyond Bronze kit. I'm a huge sucker for minis and I've wanted to try one of Benefit's makeup kits for a while, because if someone knows how to do kits. it's Benefit. You get five deluxe sample sized products in this kit, all of which I've tried and tested so I can share my thoughts on them!

1. Hoola bronzing powder (3g; mini) - The Hoola bronzing powder is a product I've heard lots about. It's quite a challenge to find a bronzer that isn't overly orange toned and shimmery. Whilst this is definitely still a warm-toned bronzer, I found that it imparted a natural glow to the face without looking orange. It's unsurprising that this is one of Benefit's cult classics!

2. Benebalm tinted lip balm (1.4g; mini) - I already own the full size of this (and two of the other shades - I have a thing for tinted lip balms) and I already use it fairly regularly. This is described as a conditioning tinted lip balm containing mango butter and sodium hyaluronate. I do find this to be moisturising and I am a fan of Benefit's tinted lip balms. I think this is a great addition to the kit because it gives lips a lovely pinky red tint and really compliments a bronzed up complexion.

3. Ultra Plush Lipgloss in the shade Hoola (6.5ml; mini) - I've only ever tried a tiny sample size of Benefit's Ultra Plush Lipgloss, but it's probably one of the most comfortable lipgloss formulas I own. By that I mean that it almost feels more like a thick lip balm, it's completely non-sticky, meaning I don't have to walk around with my hair stuck to my lips as soon as the wind picks up a bit. The only downside is that I don't think the shade is much to write home about. It's a nude gloss that is fairly transparent once applied to the lips, but pretty nonetheless!

4. They're Real Mascara in the shade black (3g; mini) - This is another of Benefit's most iconic mascaras and was crowned the UK's number one bestselling mascara. From what I've heard and read online, there seem to be lovers and haters of this mascaras. I belong to the former party. This is pretty much the only mascara I've used for the last few years. It's not advertised as waterproof but let me tell you it's a real pain to get off, meaning that it doesn't smudge or budge at all during the day. I love the formula and I love the brush - I'm kind of a They're Real! mascara groupie.

5. Dew the Hoola liquid bronzer (7g) - This was probably the product in this kit that I (along with many others) was most curious about. Benefit is giving us somewhat of a sneak peek with this product as it won't be released for individual purchase until 2016. This product has essentially been marketed as the liquid version of the powder Hoola bronzer and is described as a sheer soft-matte bronzer. This has no traces of shimmer, just like the original powder, and is also warm toned. At first pump I thought this was definitely going to be too dark/orange for me. However, once I blended it in all over my face with my fingertips on top of foundation, it sheered out to give a lovely glow. So please don't be startled by the swatch of this above - I somewhat stupidly forgot to include a swatch of the product properly blended out! As a side note: the tips and tricks booklet that comes with this set suggests using this to contour the face. I think this product is too warm-toned for contouring, so I'd stick to an all over application, with the Hoola powder bronzer blended in where the sun would naturally hit your face.
The conclusion to this rather hefty paragraph: This is a really great, lightweight liquid bronzer. The only downside is that I'll have to ration this sample and wait until 2016 to actually purchase the full sized product!

The kit also features the aforementioned tips and tricks booklet, with suggestions on how to use the products, a very decently sized mirror on the inside of the lid and a tiny mini bronzer brush. Whilst the brush is very cute, I doubt I'll use it. It really is very small and pretty scratchy, but a nice addition nonetheless. All in all this is a great kit and a good way to try some of Benefit's products without splurging on full sizes. The kit is available from QVC and is currently on offer for £23.16 - what an excuse to snap it up!
