The Greige Nail Edit

I'm a fairly picky person when it comes to nail polish. Often I'll get a fixed nail shade in my head and I'll search high and low but nothing else will cut it. That's exactly what happened with Nails Inc Porchester Square. I saw it circulate the blogosphere for ages, and I never quite managed to track it down. They don't sell Nails Inc in Switzerland and whenever I was in the UK they were permanently sold out of the shade. I therefore made it my mission to find a dupe and have thus ended up with a small collection of "greiges".

Greige is something between a grey and a beige and my preferred colours also have a hint of lavender within them. There's just something faultlessly classy about this shade for me, the colour is elegant and makes your nails look "done" without being too boring.

The first shade on my list is Essie's Master Plan. This is the most grey of all of the above offerings, however there are definitely some lilacy tones that can be detected. I'm somewhat of an Essie fiend, so I often turn to their vast shade range first when I'm looking for a specific colour. Although this didn't quite fill the Porchester Square sized hole in my heart, I found a great neutral nail shade for the colder months.

I heard Vivianna from Viviannadoesmakeup talk about Yves Saint Laurent's Beige Gallery and no sooner had she declared it a dupe for Porchester Square than I scrambled to my laptop and started doing extensive "research" - and by research I mean google swatches and compare shades. After some (not at all) subtle hinting, I was gifted this for my birthday last year. It's a lovely shade that looks very grown-up on the nails and has a great formula. However, it was a bit too beige for my Porchester Square focused mind, so the hunt continued.

A lot of searching and many failed window shopping attempts led me to realise that Feel Unique did in fact ship nail polish to Switzerland (so many places don't) and they stocked Porchester Square! So I finally placed my order and waited with bated breath for it to arrive. When it did, I couldn't get my current nail polish off fast enough. I'm pretty sure it was the only colour I wore on my nails that month, a love affair had begun. My only gripe was that I had been in such a haze of excitement when ordering it that I didn't pick up the gel version and this formula tends to chip fairly quickly on me. But hey, I love the colour and you can't have it all!

Although I was happy with the greige army I had built up so far, I spotted MAC's Lightness of Being collection and had a bit of a moment. Now, I know I'm being a tease because this shade isn't actually available anymore but the shade Modern Movement is too good to leave out. This is the most lavender in tone of all the polishes, probably the most neutral and it's a beaut. After all that palaver I had finally found the greige polish of my dreams. Whilst the formula isn't my favourite, I'm willing to freshen up my manicure after three days for a colour like this! High maintentence? Noo.

I hope I'm not the only one who goes to great lengths to locate a colour that may or may not exist! At least I can say that after some prolonged fuss and some overzealous spending - it was worth it!
