Life Lately | My Birthday & An Update

life lately, update, birthday, post

Since starting this blog a few months ago, I've kept everything very beauty related and I haven't really revealed much personal info (let's be honest, you're here for pretty lipsticks and not for the ramblings of a twenty-something). But today is my birthday, the day I turn 22 and I thought I'd do a little life update on the last few weeks or so. I'll keep it brief because let's face it, being cooped up indoors most of the time writing a dissertation doesn't warrant much of an update!

What for me was a fairly momentous moment finally rolled around this summer. I started driving lessons. At 22 I am perhaps somewhat old to only just be learning to drive a car, but to be honest, since starting uni three years ago I've had almost no time for anything except writing essays and google translating german sociological terms - there are so many. I honestly thought learning to drive was going to be so easy. I figured that if 16 year olds on MTV can do it in the States it must be a piece of cake. Nope. Okay, cars are huge. From the outside it's all fun and games, but once you're in there and trying to drive the bloody thing it seems like you need two lanes to prevent yourself driving onto the pavement or veering into oncoming traffic. In fact, the first few lessons I had, conversations between me and my driving instructor consisted almost exclusively of him yelling, "Pavement. Pavement!!". It's going to be a long time before I allow anyone to sign me up for my exam, but I've already decided that I want the tiniest car out there - none of that pavement, thanks.

Aside from driving, the last few weeks have definitely been stressful. My younger sister has officially packed off to uni and it's taken some adjusting! My family and I went to London with her to help get her moved and settled in and I thought I was in for a free holiday - hah! It ended up being much less strolling along High Street Ken, blissfully drinking a fresh juice from Whole Foods and toting bags upon bags of new clothes, and more running around John Lewis smelling fifty different scents of room diffusers and picking out face flannels - who knew moving abroad for uni required so much stuff? And on a separate note: when did clothes get so expensive? I was chuffed to make it back with about three new things! It's also definitely very strange being the older sibling and still living at home, whilst my sister is off in England. Apparently my parents have taken the opportunity to start travelling like there's no tomorrow so the dog and I are going to be spending a lot of time baking and watching German MTV - we like educational television.

I feel as though I should add a little disclaimer in here about how things will probably be on the blog for the next week or so. At this current moment things seem to be getting more and more stressful and I seem to have less time on my hands than ever. I've been so busy that I haven't even replied to all your lovely comments on my last few posts yet, which I promise I will. You lot are so sweet and reading your comments really brightens my day! I put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to living up to my own standards, and I really don't like slacking on commitments that I've made, such as my posting schedule on this blog. Having said that, this next week or so is going to be an intense one as I have uni work mounting up and I need to just focus on that for now. So I'm very sorry if it's a little quiet around these parts for a while - work and all that. But not to worry, regular makeup programming will continue very soon so stay tuned!

In hindsight I'm not sure if this has in any way, shape or form been an update or more of a random stream of consciousness - perhaps both? - but I hope it wasn't too unbearable to read. I promise I will get better at these in the future! For now, I'm off to eat dinner, open presents and stuff my face with birthday cake - keeping it classy.
