A Little KIKO Haul

From left to right: Metallic Shine Eyeshadow in 02, Metallic Shine Eyeshadow in 01, Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 05 and Intensely Lavish Lipstick in 01.

KIKO is hands down one of the best drugstore priced makeup brands I have ever tried. I first discovered it when I was in my teens and I haven't looked back since. For my birthday last month, one of the gifts I received was a gift card to KIKO. Needless to say, I practically legged it to the shop and was there within days of my birthday. I ended up making a few trips over the last month, so I thought I'd do a little haul and show you what I picked up!

One of the main attractions for me in the KIKO store was definitely the Rebel Romantic collection. I'd been seeing endless shots on blogs and Instagrams of swoonworthy packaging and gorgeous colours. Being the lipstick hoarder that I am, I shot straight over to the lip offerings of the collection and picked up one of the Intensely Lavish Lipsticks in the shade 01. I was convinced into buying this after hearing someone on the internet declare it as the lipstick version of the MAC Soar lip liner - need I say more? I have compared the two side by side and I can't say that they're exactly the same, but there is a definite similarity. The stuff mauve lipsticked dreams are made of. The lipstick formula is creamy and the pigmentation is impressive. I wouldn't say that this is the longest lasting lipstick out there, but you can definitely get a good few hours out of it and considering the price point I'm not complaining!

Another piece of the Rebel Romantic collection that I was curious about, were the Metallic Shine Eyeshadows. I picked up the shades 01 and 02, albeit the latter was actually a mistake and I went back to pick up the colour I had actually meant to get the first time: 01. These confused me at first, because given the pot packaging I was certain that these would be a cream eyeshadow formula. A lot of confused swatching and a few misguided application attempts later, I realised that no, these were in fact not cream eyeshadows. They're described by KIKO as "a creamy powder eyeshadow with a metallic finish" but I think I'd just say that these are powders. 01 is a gorgeous champagney shade and is a great everyday lid shade. 02, as I touched on before, was an accidental purchase when I picked up the wrong eyeshadow from all the fluster and stress of wanting all of the makeup. It's more of a pinky rose shade, also with a metallic finish. I have yet to try this one and I'm not exactly sure how I'll use it, but it is a very pretty shade and the pigmentation is the bees knees.

My favourite purchase from this haul has to be the Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in the shade 05. Guys, this shade is a dead ringer for the By Terry Ombre Black Star in the shade Misty Rock, a product that I've been lusting after for months but haven't yet been able to justify. I've googled a heck of a lot of swatches of Misty Rock, so when I swatched the KIKO shadow stick in store, I immediately thought of the By Terry offering. The colour is a kind of purpley bronze and it looks absolutely stunning on the lids. I've since done some research online and it seems that they really are a close dupe, so if you're like me and you've had your eye on Misty Rock for a while but didn't want to splurge: this is your guy. Onto the actual product itself! I already own one of these shadow sticks and they're absolutely incredible. I have yet to try a better formula of cream eyeshadow. The pigmentation is on point and they are ridiculously creamy and blendable when you first apply them. Beyond that, however, they dry down and do not budge. Seriously. Swatching these is all fun and games until it comes to trying to get the stuff of your hands again. A good makeup removal oil and some serious scrubbing is required!

Finally, I picked up one of the Quick Dry Nail Lacquers in the shade 858 which is a gorgeous rose gold kind of colour. I initially thought that this was just a metallic shade, but there's actually microglitter in it too, which kind of gives the colour a bit more dimension. I've found that the KIKO nail polishes are slightly hit and miss, I already own another shade from this range and the lasting power was really good. Unfortunately that wasn't the case with this one. This chipped on me literally within the same day and when the same thing happened after a second reapplication the following time I tried it, I set it aside. I'm all for topping up my manicure here and there after a few days, but when it's only hours after painting my nails - not so much.

Sorry to end it on a low note there, but fortunately the nail polish was the only pick of the bunch that didn't quite manage to impress me. The rest of the things I picked up are really high quality and I've really been loving using them! KIKO's products really fantastic value for money overall and a lot of their makeup has surpassed the quality of some of my higher end makeup. Let's just say that this won't be my last visit to KIKO!
