I'm one of those people who constantly has their handbags stuffed to the brim. I can't even tell you how many nice handbags I've ruined with the sheer volume of the things I carry around with me on a daily basis. I like to think that I'm prepared for every situation. Snacks? Check. Entertainment? Check. Stain removal wipes? Check - I'm a spiller, okay? Yes, I am almost an eighty year old woman in the body of a young person, but I like to cover all bases. Given the circumstances, a what's in my bag post in its entirety would take hours to write and read and I don't think anyone really wants to battle through that. So I thought today I'd delve into just the beauty side of what's in my bag!

I know this isn't technically a makeup product, but it's something that I have in all of my handbags: hand sanitizer. I really like The Body Shop Hand Cleanse Gel in the mango scent. It's affordable and actually smells nice and not too alcohol-y. There are germs literally everywhere and public transport is a pretty grim place when it comes to that, so I tend to just whip this out once I get off the train and I'm good to go. Also you can't snack when your hands aren't clean so there's also that incentive.

As the day goes on, my makeup tends to just do this thing where it disappears and I end up looking (very) shiny. To counteract the midday shine, I like to carry the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in my bag. This is a great one for just setting everything back into place a bit and I find it does add a little more coverage, so things just end up looking nice and even. I apply this with a mini Barbara Hofmann brush, which I believe is the angled blush brush but I can't seem to find anywhere online! To be honest, any mini brush will do, I just keep mine in a mini plastic folder so that things stay nice and hygienic - I told you I'm a grandma.

Another essential: hand cream. I cannot stand having dry hands and being able to feel how dry they are whenever I move them. Because of that, I always carry a mini hand cream around with me and I tend to just shove some of this on after I sanitise my hands. My long time favourite hand cream is the Soap & Glory Hand Food. This stuff is amazing! It moisturises your hands like nothing else and absorbs super quickly, which is something that's really important when you're on the go because who wants greasy hands when you're out and about? No, ew. Also this has probably one of the best scents in the world - just sayin'.

In my opinion it's common courtesy to not smell gross in public. Public transport can be nasty and cramped and very unpleasantly scented, so I like to make sure I have something on me to make the whole situation less icky. Also it's nice to smell nice. I love rollerball perfumes for this, because they're just so practical and easy to apply without risking catching someone else in the crossfire of your perfume spraying. There's close to nowhere that does these, so I tend to rely on Zara for a good cheap option. My current perfume of choice comes in the form of the Zara Rose EDT, (which I also can't seem to find online, gah!) which I just picked up as I was paying for a pair on jeans recently. It's not the most amazing scent ever and it does fade after a little while, but it smells nice and it's a great, no fuss handbag option.

Last but most definitely not least, are the lip products that I constantly have floating around in my bag. Anyone who knows me would scoff at the measly two I've stuck in this post, but for the sake of efficiency let's pretend that I don't normally carry around 10 different lipsticks at any given time - options though! If I were to really whittle it down, I normally have a lip balm somewhere in there and then an actual lip colour. To be honest, I'm a floozy when it comes to both. I'm constantly flitting between different lip products, but for now I've been loving the Fresh Sugar Rosé Lip Treatment to keep my pout hydrated and MAC Modesty lipstick to add a little something to my makeup. In terms of lipsticks, I'll almost always have a nude one rattling around in my handbag, because they're just the easiest to wear, no matter what's going on on the rest of your face. Practicality first!

So there we have it, my handbag beauty essentials! I'm not actually someone who carries their whole makeup bag with them when they leave the house. I know some people are decked out with mascara, blush, highlight, concealer and all sorts, but with all the stuff I already ram into my bag I'd be looking at some serious back problems if I added anything else. I probably should learn to streamline at some point in my life, but until then, feel free to reassure me that I'm not the only one who carries way too many lip products with them - seriously!

  2. I also always carry around a hand cream, I never tried the soap & glory product before but I really want to. It's also always good to carry about a lip balm.
