From left to right: NYX 01 Georgia Peach, Essence 10 Heat Wave, Sleek Rose Gold, NYX Dusty Rose and Sleek Suede.

Blushes are probably one of my biggest weaknesses. I own far too many and I'm partial to a blush palette or five every now and again too. There's just something I love about how the shade of blush you use can really change the mood of a makeup look in just one step. Over time I've found a lot of drugstore cheek colours that I've been using for a very long time now and I always reach for. I will say that I'm not all too adventurous when it comes to the brands in this post, there's only a measly three different ones, but their blushes are so good that I just haven't felt the need to stray all that far! I'm a creature of habit. These are five of my all time favourite blushes that just happen to also be super affordable!

1. NYX HD Studio Photogenic Grinding Blush in Georgia Peach - First off: that name really takes the cake - phwoar! Aside from the ridiculously long name, this one's a beaut. As you can probably see from the swatch above, it looks very sheer, which I find slightly puzzling because on the skin it's actually very pigmented. It's one of those twist and grind up the product kind of systems which I don't love - mess and that - but I'm alright with it. I find that this applies really nicely and lasts well too, which is something I always look for in a blush. The colour of this is (as the name suggests) a really pretty matte peachy pink. More of a summery pick, but it does sneak it's way into the autumn months too!

2. NYX Powder Blush in Dusty Rose - I absolutely love the colour of this blush, it really is a dusty, pale rose shade and this is the blush I'll reach for 90% of the time when I do a smoky eye, because it just adds a bit of life back into your face without really making too much of a statement. This is another matte shade, which means is also great for no-makeup-makeup days when I just want to add a little something to make it look like I have in fact left the house that day, when I've actually stayed in all day watching reality TV, baking a batch of cookies and then eating said batch of cookies. This also lasts well throughout the day and applies like a dream - what more could you want?

3. Essence blush up! Powder Blush in Heat Wave - How pretty is this? It's one of those gradient blushes that goes from one shade to another, so you can stick to one side or the other, or swirl them together like I have in the swatch above. Essence is one of those brands that is super duper cheap, so this product will only set you back a grand total of £3.50. The quality is also great considering the price point, the powder is finely milled and the colour payoff is fantastic. I tend to just swirl my brush all around in this and get a kind of vivid peach shade, which looks great when you're not doing much else with your makeup. This has also been touted as a dupe for MAC's cult classic and limited edition Ripe Peach blush online. Although I don't own it, after looking at comparisons online it seems that there is a definite similarity and considering the affordability and availability of the Essence offering, I'd say it's a great one to try!

4. Sleek Blush in Rose Gold - This is one of those blogger favourite, perma-sold out kind of products - and there's a reason! I searched high and low before I managed to find this a year or two ago and oh my is it pretty. This has often been compared to the NARS Orgasm blush, which I also own, and although they definitely are similar, I actually prefer the Sleek one - scandal! They're both pinks with gold shimmer running through them, but I'd say the NARS one is more of a peach, whilst Rose Gold is a more vivid pink. Also the pigmentation of the Sleek blush is miles better than my NARS one - just sayin'. This blush just imparts the loveliest glow to the cheeks and it's a great one for tricking people into thinking you get 8 hours of sleep every night like a well-rounded adult - ha! This also doesn't emphasise enlarged pores as much as the NARS blush and I'd say it's overall more flattering than a lot of my other shimmery blushes. So if you manage to find this, snatch it up!

5. Sleek Blush in Suede - You may have seen my swatch of this and wondered why I was sticking a bronzer in with the rest of the blushes - I didn't - promise! This is such an unusual blush shade and it sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of my peachy pink/pale rose picks, but this is probably one of the most versatile blushes I own. It's a very warm toned matte orangey brown, which somehow manages to really add some warmth to the complexion, without giving you that oompa loompa glow - been there. I absolutely love this for the autumn, because you really can't see that you've even applied much on your cheeks, it just looks like you have a healthy complexion, which is something I really appreciate during the colder months. As is the drill with Sleek blushes, the formula is on point; great pigmentation, finely milled (I need to stop saying that) and stellar wear time. Love.

So those are some of my all time favourite blush options from the drugstore! I love that there are super affordable options available that manage to beat the formulas of even some of the super high-end blushes! Having said that, yes, I do need to try a few more different brands from the drugstore - I'm not the most adventurous. I'll definitely be using these to perk up my complexion in the coming months. Pasty winter skin? I've got you covered!

  5. I think the Georgia Peach shade looks stunning, I've been wanting to try NYX blushes for a while now. Whenever I go to Ulta I always forget to buy them, I'll have to remember the next time I go.

    1. I have to admit that I haven't quite find the perfect blush brush either. I tend to either use The Body Shop blush brush (in the above photos) or the Real Techniques duo fiber face brush. I hope that's in some way helpful! xo
