If you're a bit of a makeup lover then I'm sure you know that supporting a beauty habit can get pricey. Makeup is expensive and there are always so many new things to try that it's hard to reign in the spending sometimes. That's why I'm always so chuffed when I come across a dupe in my collection. In hindsight I should perhaps be slightly disheartened by the fact that I've managed to pick up two near-identical products, but I'm choosing to see the bright side - okay?

Ramble aside, I've made it no secret that I have a bit of a thing for MAC lipsticks, in particular MAC Velvet Teddy. I've even crowned it one of my all time favourite lip products and with good reason - the stuff is gorgeous. For me, this is the perfect do-it-all nude colour, it's a dusty rose with just the right amount of brown and it's ultra flattering as well as versatile. It's a matte formulation, the texture is creamy and the wear time is impressive - can you tell I'm a fan? The only downside is the price. Now I know that in the grand makeup scheme, MAC's products are on the more affordable side when compared to super high-end makeup brands, but the price point is still quite a bit steeper than other drugstore options.

I went on a dupe-hunt through my lipstick collection the other day, and I managed to find a near-identical match to Velvet Teddy. Said dupe comes in the form of the Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lip Color in the shade Bare It All and I seriously couldn't quite believe how similar these two are! When I took the photo of the swatches on my arm, I tidied everything back up and exported the photos, only to realise that I had no idea which was which! So off I trotted to retake the photo and take careful notice of which colour was which the second time around!

Both the colour and the formula of these are super duper similar. I will say that Velvet Teddy leans slightly more to the brown side, whilst Bare It All is slightly pinker. I did, however, apply one to my top lip and one to my bottom lip to test it out and you really couldn't tell a difference. Not only are both colours much of a muchness, but they're both super creamy formulas that just glide onto the lips and aren't drying. Velvet Teddy is a matte formula and Bare It All is a semi-matte, but I'd say that Velvet Teddy is also slightly creamier than a true matte lipstick. I would perhaps say that the MAC option is ever so slightly longer lasting, but the lasting power on the Wet 'n Wild lipsticks is pretty darn decent too!

Overall, I think Bare It All is a pretty spot-on dupe for Velvet Teddy and if you've been wanting to try Velvet Teddy but you're not quite sold on the price, then this is a great alternative to try! In Zurich, a MAC lipstick retails for 28CHF (about $28 / £18.30), whilst a Wet 'n Wild lipstick costs 3.90CHF (around $4 / £2.50), so the price difference is pretty significant! I've almost completely run out of Velvet Teddy now, so I'll definitely be using Bare It All to tide me over until I can pick up another one (it's perma sold out. Seriously). If you'd like a more in depth review of the Wet 'n Wild lipsticks I reviewed them here. I can't recommend these enough, they're fantastic for the price!

I hope this has been helpful to any of you who've had your curiosity piqued by all the hype around Velvet Teddy. The drugstore has so many great alternatives and often the quality is just as good as the original, so it's worth having a good look around! Plus with Christmas just around the corner it doesn't hurt to save a penny or two!

  7. That's so cool how there's a dupe for Velvet Teddy... It's definitely so hard to keep up with buying makeup products, since they come out so often & they get so expensive. :(
