Two New Lip Loves: NARS & L'Oreal

Left to right: L'Oreal Amen and NARS Dolce Vita.

We've all established that I have a bit of a thing for lip products. In fact I have a whole drawer of them that is practically bursting at the seams. So long story short, I really don't need any more but blogging has kind of given me more of an excuse to do some extra shopping lately - research, y'know. Last week I picked up two new lip products and I've since become quite enamoured with both, so naturally I thought I'd have a little ramble about them to you!

The first of these is the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita. I am 100% going to blame this on the fact that the man at the NARS counter in Jelmoli was just so lovely that I ended up chatting to him for a good while. The chinwag meant that I was at the counter for way longer than usual and obviously I ended up finding about 50 things I wanted, but managed to come away with only one. So really I got off lightly. I digress. I already own one of these in the shade Cruella and I've wanted to try another shade in perhaps a slightly more wearable colour for a while now. Dolce Vita is a shade I love from the NARS lip products line and I immediately gravitated towards it. I'd class the shade as somewhere between a brighter neutral and a rosy pink, it somehow manages to suit every occasion and it's absolutely gorgeous. If you're after something with the same stellar formula as Cruella, you're going to be disappointed by this. It's far more sheer in application and you need a good few swipes to get proper pigmentation onto your lips. With that comes slightly less wear time, which I'll admit I'm not chuffed about. Although the formula isn't quite as good as I'd hoped, the colour of this is still absolutely worth it for me. It's such a gorgeous pink and I think it'll be a great winter lip staple!

You know when you have some extra time to wait at a train station before your train and you end up wandering around aimlessly or getting snacks? That's how I stumbled upon the L'Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte in Amen. I was on a supermarket snack run and suddenly I was in the drugstore beauty isle - whoops. I was intrigued by concept of a "matte gloss" - weird name - and the colour of this is just so pretty that I picked it right up and headed over to the till. I then applied this on the train home, using my train companion as a "mirror" ("no, Sonja, you've smudged it down your chin. No. No, okay, you're just making it worse") and quickly came to the conclusion that it made my lips briefly go numb. I thought this was a fluke until I tried it again the next day and the same happened. So I'm not sure if I should really still be using it - but the colour. The colour is so gorgeous! It's my kind of nude and completely up my street, plus the formula is really velvety, super opaque and lasts really well for a drugstore lip product. Whilst slightly befuddled by the applicator, I'm pretty darn impressed with this one!

So those are two of my most recent lip product finds that have made it into my everyday makeup rotation! Both of these were complete impulse purchases but I'm very glad I picked them up. I think I might put myself on a bit of a lip product buying ban until after Christmas, but knowing me that wouldn't go too fantastically. Ah well - it's the thought that counts!
