2015 Beauty Favourites

So that's a wrap on 2015! I know I just posted my December favourites, but today I'm hitting you with my 2015 beauty favourites. I thought it was going to be a lot harder to pick these out because I own a few too many beauty products, but it was actually plain sailing! Obviously I haven't included absolutely everything I've been loving this year or we'd be sat here all day, and I haven't followed the traditional "one from each category" setup either, but hopefully this will suffice! Let's get on with the best in beauty from the last year!

Base // In terms of foundation, I've been a bit of a floozy this year and flitted somewhat between the ones in my stash. The one I've kept going back to, however, has been the Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation, because it keeps my combination skin in check and lasts all day. To conceal any blemishes on my face I've been reaching for the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer for years. This stuff has been tried and tested over time and I know that I can go for this and it'll stay put all day - not to mention that affordable price tag!

Complexion // I've gotten much more into contouring this year and it's ended up being something I do almost every day. Don't get me wrong, I don't go in like Mario Dedivanovic - like I even could - but I like a bit of definition and tricking people into thinking I actually have cheekbones. My favourite products to achieve this look have been the NARS Matte Multiple in Altai and the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder. The NARS pick is a little warm toned, I'll admit that, but I especially loved contouring with it throughout the summer. Now that I'm a little paler I've tended to reach more for The Sculpting Powder, because it's so cool toned and just super easy to apply. The highlight of the year - get it? Eh? Eh? Okay, sorry I'll stop - has by far been The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer. Although there have been some dabbles in other highlighters (some amazing ones at that), I keep going back to this one. This just imparts the perfect "glow" without any of the dreaded glitter. I have slightly larger pores so I spent ages wondering if I could even pull off highlight and it turns out that this was the answer to my question! Love. Last but not least we have a blush. The Sleek Powder Blush in Suede has seen me through many a makeup look. This to me is just the perfect shade to add a little something to your face, without taking away or adding to the rest of what's going on. Great pigmentation, great price, great product!

Brows // At the start of the year I was strictly a powder gal when it came to brows, and I was convinced that that was the only way to do it for me. One lost brow brush and an amazing brow find later, I'm all about the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil. This may be considered cheating because I actually only picked this up in September, so pretty close to the end of the year, but since then I've made it through two of these and I've used them exclusively. I have the shade Blondeshell and although my brows are definitely more on the brown side of things, this fills them in perfectly without making them OTT and giving amazing definition that sticks around all day. It's love. Brow gels are a vital part of my makeup routine because without them everything just flies around and that's not attractive. At the beginning of the year I was all about the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara, bar the weird brush, this was the best brow gel I'd found in the drugstore. It was a good shade, actually fixed things in place and was super affordable. Around summer I started using the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper, a product I'd dismissed when I first bought it. Boy, was I wrong. This adds definition as well as a little extra "fullness" to the brows all with the teeniest little brow brush. Depending on the look I'm going for I'll flit between these two products. The conclusion for me is that the drugstore is rocking the brow game right now!

Eyes // There's only one product I've used to prime my eyes pretty much all year and that's the MAC Painterly Pro Longwear Paint Pot. This is a pretty perfect shade to even out any darkness on the eyelids if you have fairly light skin and creates an amazing base for eyeshadow. You can pretty much forget about creasing and fading with this one - it's kind of amazing! If I included all the eyeshadows I've loved throughout 2015 I'd have to write a separate post, so I decided to choose one brand. Although I've strayed to a few other palettes towards the end of the year, for the majority of it I was hooked on my MAC eyeshadow quads. (Left quad, clockwise from top left: Blackberry, Cranberry, Woodwinked and All That Glitters. Right quad, left to right: Coppering and Amber Lights). These have carried me through all the seasons and I've taken them on pretty much every holiday I've been on this year. The quality of them is great and I love that I can pick and choose the shades I want to include. Definitely a solid favourite this year! If you've taken a gander at my blog before, you wont't be surprised by my mascara choice. The Benefit They're Real! Mascara has been pretty much the one and only mascara I've used in the last two years. This is probably my fifth or so tube of this and I plan on repurchasing it again. It's volumising, lengthening and stays put - what more could you want?

Top to bottom: MAC Stone, MAC Velvet Teddy, Kat Von D Lolita.

Lips // Right, we all knew I clearly was not going to stick to one lipstick favourite - psh. Let's get the obvious one out of the way first: MAC Velvet Teddy. This is my most used lipstick ever and the only lipstick I've ever come close to using up completely - just look at that little stub! This is the do it all nude for me, it suits almost every makeup look I do, it's ultra flattering and it's a matte formula so it sticks around throughout the day. Next up is MAC Stone lipstick, which isn't a shade I ever thought I'd go for. This is a grey-tinged brown, which sounds absolutely horrible but I kind of love it. This isn't even one I use all of the time because I think you need to think quite carefully about what kind of makeup you wear it with, but it's one of the lipsticks I was most looking forward to getting this year and one that I love wearing. Last but most certainly not least we have the famous Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita. I'd kind of given up hope on finding a liquid lipstick that worked for me. There's so little choice in Zurich at the moment and the ones that I've tried have been subpar at best. That's why I was so pleasantly surprised by this one. It applies evenly, the pigmentation is amazing and once it dries down it ain't going anywhere! This is another browny rose lipstick - yes there is a theme - and there's definitely a reason why this is always sold out. I only have a teeny weeny little sample size but the few times I've checked Sephora to buy the full size it's been unavailable - *sobs*. I think it may run out soon, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it in 2016 but for now it's a firm favourite!

Well congrats if you made it through this! That was a seriously wordy one, good thing I streamlined things down (yes, that was streamlined!). Last year was an amazing one in terms of new beauty discoveries and I've added a fair few new favourites to my stash. I also feel like drugstore brands have really been bringing it this last year, there are so many products that are on the same level as, or completely outperform, high end brands. Do let me know which products you've been loving this year, I've really been enjoying reading everyone's best of 2015 beauty posts! Here's to another year of amazing beauty finds!
