January 2016 Beauty Favourites

January 2016 Beauty Favourites. makeup, palettes, Urban decay gwen stefani palette, ambient lighting edit, dr hauscka facial toner, hm cream lipstick chestnut cream, urban decay brow beater, hm blush tawny peach

So here goes: the first beauty favourites of 2016! As per usual, the month has just about flown by and I had a little moment of realisation the other day of how quickly time has actually passed. Anyway, I digress, that's what just about everyone and their dog say in their favourites! This month has been spent doing a lot of behind the scenes bloggy things, working for uni and learning to drive, so there have been a few firm favourites but there isn't a long list! I will say that the ones I'm featuring here I've used almost every day and have definitely found their way into my makeup hoarding heart. So without further ado: here's the best in beauty from January!

One of my Christmas presents from my lovely sister was the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette and I managed not use this for about a week after I got it because I was waiting to take blog photos. Once I did crack into this, I went on hiatus from all my other eyeshadows/palettes/shadow sticks, I only had eyes for this palette - oh, the puns! This is an amazing neutral palette. It has an great selection of everyday shadows as well as a few more daring shades to jazz things up a bit if you're feeling fancy. As is the norm with Urban Decay, the shadow quality is the bees knees and they're absolutely lovely to use. If you want to read more about this palette, I did a full review on it here.

The next favourite is a very reluctant one. As you know if you're a regular reader, I was completely enamoured with the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil. It costs about £8 and it's the best brow pencil I've ever used. However, it's a total nightmare for me to get hold of in Switzerland - yes, I know I've whined about this about ten times already! - so I had to look for an alternative. The shade Blondeshell is such a good match for me that I actually stuck it in my handbag and went to look for an alternative with the exact same shade. Fast forward to me standing at the Urban Decay counter, looking like a crazy lady, swatching things from her handbag on her hand and comparing it to the other products. Enter the Urban Decay Brow Beater. The shade Taupe is pretty much the exact same thing as Blondeshell and the pencil itself is also very similar. The defining difference? The price. This costs more than double what the Soap & Glory brow pencil costs but does do the job just as well. So until I head back to London, this is my stand-in brow pencil. It's a great product and the pencil lasts all day. Plus there's a spoolie on the other end which is always handy!

I've ranted and raved about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit since I got it, so it was only fair that I stuck it in a favourites post. Let's just take a moment to realise that yes, I did stick my nail into the bronzer and that is why there's a dent in it - sobs. I've used this almost every time I've done my makeup in January and it's by far one of the most versatile palettes I own. This has been an amazing companion for the winter to cheat my way to a glowier complexion and to trick people into believing I'm healthier than I really am. I've rambled on about this enough in other posts, so if you fancy more details, I've done a full review of this here

Obviously I was going to stick a piece from the H&M Beauty collection in here, wasn't I? The Powder Blusher in Tawny Peach is a beaut and it's been another cheek powder I've been reaching for a lot through January. Truth be told, I haven't used this as much as the other products in this post (definitely because of the Hourglass blushes) but this is a great one for no-makeup days. The formula of these is gorgeous and the shade range is absolutely amazing. This is a lovely brown-peach (as the name suggests) and it's just a really flattering shade. Definitely one to check out if you're in the market for a good affordable blush!

A skincare favourite of mine this month has been the Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner. I already mentioned this in an empties post recently, but I got a sample of this in the Dr. Hauschka advent calendar I had. I ploughed through that sample and loved the results so I went to get the full size. I mentioned this in the aforementioned empties post, but alcohol is listed as the third ingredient on this, so if you have highly irritable skin I'd give this a miss. Normally alcohol would set my skin off, but for some reason this doesn't irritate my skin and it does a great job at keeping things clear. Slightly drying perhaps, but nothing a good moisturiser won't compensate for!

Okay, so there's another H&M Beauty item in here. I'm sorry! The Cream Lipstick in Chestnut Cream is one I picked up on a recent "browse" through H&M. I absolutely love their cream lipstick formula, it just glides onto the lips and lasts surprisingly well for such a moisturising formulation. The colour of this is so pretty, it's kind of a pinky, peachy and browny nude (good one describing those colours, Sonja) and it's an amazing everyday shade. Plus you can apply it without a mirror, which bodes well for train-dwellers like me who don't want bright lipstick smudged down their chin!

There we have it, another monthly favourites done and dusted! Like I said, there wasn't a whole lot this month but with my tendency to ramble, that's probably a good thing or we'd both be sat here all day! I love hearing and reading about other people's monthly favourites too, so do let me know what you've been loving this month! I hope you all have a great weekend! Happy Friday!

    1. I do love the Hourglass palette but the good thing is that as far as I know the products in it will all be available separately too! Urban Decay always have such pretty palettes but it's definitely a sensible decision not to buy too many! xo
