The winter has always been fairly unforgiving time when it comes to my skin. It often tends to look lacklustre and needs a little extra help in the glow-department. Thankfully, there are products around to help beat the winter dullness and to brighten up even the greyest of complexions! These are some of the products that I've been reaching for a whole lot lately, both to combat the signs of winter on my face and to make it look like I haven't been cooped up in my room, marathoning Orange is the New Black and avoiding the snow all week. Yes, seriously - I needed some heavy duty stuff!

If you're trying to go for a glowy look, a great place to start is your base. If my skin looks dry and I use a base that does nothing to counteract that, it doesn't matter how great the rest of my makeup looks, my skin will look dull making the overall thing just look grey. One of my favourite bases for getting my glow on is a mixture of the Erborian BB Creme Light and the Erborian CC Creme HD. I know I've mentioned these a lot, but I really haven't found anything better than this for my dry skin throughout winter. Erborian is a Korean skincare brand, so they really know what they're doing and this combo walks the line between light and medium coverage, whilst still retaining a great amount of moisture. A bit of powder and you're all set - pun not intended but hilarious nonetheless.

So, the powder you use to actually keep your base in place; I've found that my usual matte setting powders just don't really work for me at the moment. They make everything look kind of flat again which completely negates the point of the base. Because of that, I've been reaching for my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit a whole lot lately and using Dim Light in particular to set my base in place. This powder is great because it does set everything but also maintains the natural glow of your base without being too mattifying. To set my under eye concealer I'll normally go for Diffused Light, which works wonders for brightening any darkness still hanging around under there. Even in terms of blush, this palette has you covered. I've been using Mood Exposure almost daily recently to impart a lovely flush of colour with some extra added glow. I strongly maintain that if it's glow you're after this palette is kind of a winner!

Next we have what is probably the most obvious step if you're after a healthy glow: highlight. I used to avoid highlighter like the plague, I found that the ones I'd tried only served to emphasise pores and I didn't fancy looking like a giant glitter ball, thank you very much! The game-changers for me have been The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer and the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop. Both have featured on here before and both are well worth a hundred mentions. These are by far the best highlighters I've ever tried, both are champagney tones and both contain just about zero glitter. Champagne Pop is slightly more pinky than Mary Lou Manizer but both manage to boast 8 hours of sleep and a week's worth of healthy eating which I'm more than okay with!

The last product is kind of a weird one to include in this post because it's a lipgloss. The reason why I've stuck the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in the shade 02 in here, is because I think that a slightly sheeny lip can make your overall complexion look much more healthy and youthful. If you want to go the extra mile and aim for a super glowy look, a light layer of gloss on your lips can often make the whole thing look brighter and fresher than a matte lipstick. The Clarins gloss is something I always reach for on no-makeup makeup days because it tends to pull the whole look together and make it look like I've made more effort than I really have. Just slick on a light layer of this, pat it in slightly and voila! A fuss-free and very pretty pout!

Can you tell I've been mildly obsessed with trying to get a bit of a summer glow lately? I think I should also mention that whilst I do tend to do all of the steps mentioned, I'm also careful not to go overboard. I think most people have been in a position where they got a little too overenthusiastic with the highlight and ended up looking a little on the sweaty side rather than glowy - just me? Alright then! I hope this has helped out anyone else whose skin has been looking a little lacklustre through the winter months. Do also let me know what some of your tips are for maintaining a glow during winter - I'm all ears! Here's to drinking loads of water and slapping on the highlight! Happy Friday!

    1. Yeah, sometimes powders just make everything look a bit flat. Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes over the top with the highlight! That's actually a really good idea, I need to look for a good moisturising toning mist then, thanks for the recommendation! xo

  2. I think the Mary Lou highlighter and Champagne pop are must haves for glowy skin! They are so pigmented too, which I love. During the winter I've been using a lot of face mists to set my makeup so my makeup doesn't look so cakey.

  3. I want that Hourglass palette more than anything right now. It looks so beautiful, but it's also soooo expensive. If that's not motivation to study harder at uni so I can one day afford it, I don't know what is haha!
