The Five Product Face

The Five Product Face, no makeup makeup, easy makeup, quick makeup, minimal

I love makeup and I have days where I feel like wearing all of the products. However, there are also days where I just don't have the time/can't be bothered to go the whole hog. On days like those I like to keep things very minimal and sometimes I stick to very few products. The other day I thought I'd challenge myself to create a full(ish) face of makeup, using only five products, so I thought I'd share the products I used!

One step that I pretty much never skip when I'm doing makeup (no matter how minimal) is some kind of base. I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation since I got it and because my skin has been so temperamental lately, it just ended up looking dry on my face. Recently, however, I've found that if I use a good layer of moisturiser under this it leaves an absolutely gorgeous, glowy finish. It's safe to say that this foundation and I are definitely on good terms now. What I love about this is that it's also a formula that you can build and it'll still look natural and won't appear cakey.

I did consider leaving a concealer out for this look and maybe subbing in another product but the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is just a staple in my makeup routine. I've inherited some pretty pronounced dark circles under my eyes and I find that my makeup just looks better when I cover them up. I didn't used to use this under my eyes for fear of it creasing, but after moisturising my under eye area I've found that this does a great job at both concealing and brightening! I'm a convert. I also dotted this on any blemishes and was good to go!

Whilst I'm sure a lot of people would leave their brows bare for a minimal makeup look, I always do my brows when I'm doing my makeup. Teenage Sonja plucked her brows like there was no tomorrow, so I've been left with some pretty sparse areas. Picking a brow product here was a bit of a no-brainer for me, because when it comes to evening out sparseness, imparting a bit of a tint and fixing brows in place, the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper is my guy. I know I go on and on about this product all the time, so I shan't ramble. I will say that my brows look slightly dodgy in the above photo and that is down to the fact that I've been pretty lax on maintenance lately. Sorry!

As with the brow plumper, I talk about the Benefit They're Real! Mascara pretty much all the time. It's just an amazing mascara as far as I'm concerned and I can apply this really naturally or go for a super dramatic look. I've gone for something in between here because whilst I wanted to maintain the whole natural look, I did want to emphasise my eyes a bit as I'm not using any other products on them here.

My final product to complete this group of five is a multipurpose one - very exciting! I love a good multipurpose product, and I'm particularly drawn to products of the "cheek and lip" variety. That probably explains why I got so excited about the Becca Beach Tint in Raspberry. I'll be real with you here, as much as I love them, products marketed as "cheek and lip" are normally really only "cheek or lip". Rarely do I find products that work for both jobs, which is why I was pleasantly surprised with this one! It's kind of a gel-like formula, so it blends onto the cheeks like a dream and lightly stains the lips with a very pretty berry shade. It was ever so slightly patchy on the lips (as I'm sure you can tell from the photo), but I'm pretty sure that was also down to my speedy application. Definitely a thumbs up from me!

I honestly wasn't expecting much out of this makeup look. I thought that because of the limited amount of products involved, something would be lacking but I was quite chuffed with the result! Sure it's not the best makeup I've ever put together, but if you're dashing out of the house or just want something quick to slap on before school/uni/work, this is a great little combination of products. Because I forewent powder, my base also looked really natural and glowy, which I'm most definitely a fan of! Have you tried any of these? What are your must haves for a streamlined makeup look?

  2. I've heard so much about the L'oreal brow plumper, I need to give it a try. I don't really set my eyebrows with gel much but I need to start. My must haves are concealer and eyebrow pencils.

  5. I actually LOVE this post, cause I tend to do similar kinds of makeup when I'm very lazy or not doing much :P But, I'm completely in the same boat with you when under eye concealer is mentioned haha, I am also quite intrigued by the becca tint - it looks so so beautiful and I'm assuming it would have staying power as well?
