Valentine's Makeup Look

So Valentine's day will soon be upon us and although I know it's a bit of a marmite day, I thought it might be nice to partake in some of the festivities nonetheless. Truth be told, I don't really have very strong opinions regarding Valentine's day, I don't love it or hate it. In my eyes, whether you've got a Valentine's date, you're having a girl's night in or you're going to be parked in front of the telly with a curry and wine (probably what I'll be doing), you can have a great Valentine's day either way! For anyone looking to head out on Sunday, I thought it would be fun to put together a little Valentine's makeup look! This is probably very similar to the makeup I do most days; something simple on the eyes, nice glowy skin and a nude lip. Nice and easy!

The Base // Starting off with some groundwork, I like to use the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation when I'm going for a slightly glowy look. I find that this wears beautifully and leaves you with a nice dewy finish. Pop a bit of the Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Eye Concealer under your eyes and you're good to go! For the sake of leaving things nice and glowy I'm forgoing powder here, but if you're more of a powder gal you can swipe a bit down your t-zone and still maintain that healthy sheen!

Even though we're keeping things fairly natural, I do love a bit of contour. My favourite easy product to fake some cheekbones is the Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder. Bit in the hollows of your cheeks, on your forehead, temples and chin and you're basically Heidi Klum. Kind of. I like to do blush next and because I'm still hooked on H&M Beauty, I've been reaching for the Powder Blush in Tawny Peach a whole lot lately. A bit of that on the apples of your cheeks and a light dusting of The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and cupid's bow and you've got your base and colour down!

Brows // No surprises here! I sub in the Urban Decay Brow Beater in Taupe to do the defining and use the spoolie on the other end to make sure things are nice and even and that I haven't been too enthusiastic with the pencil. To prevent your brow hairs from going haywire and alarming your date/friends/self, brow gel really goes a long way. I love the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper because it adds a bit of extra fullness to brows and does a great job at keeping them in place.

Eyes // As per usual I prime my eyelids with the MAC Painterly Paint Pot, which may just about be the best eyeshadow base I've ever used. In terms of eyeshadow, I'm using the Wet 'n Wild Walking on Eggshells trio here, which is an amazing drugstore palette. I started off with packing the bottom shade all over the lid and blending it out, before popping some of the brown shade into the crease and blending that out too. I used the top shade to highlight my browbone and that's that done! I finished this off with lashings of the Benefit They're Real! Mascara and if I were up to the challenge I might've even applied falsies here. I am, however, slightly cack-handed, so mascara was the end of the eye look for me!

Lips // I know that the red lip is potentially the epitome of Valentine's day and whatnot, but if you're really going to be going on a proper date (food/wine/kissing) then I don't think a red lip is the most practical thing. Either that or I'm just absolutely awful at maintaining a bold lip! For a more low maintenance option I've gone with MAC's Modesty lipstick. This is a favourite of mine because it's such a pretty "my lips but better shade" - yes, I know you're probably sick to death of hearing that phrase, but it's true! This is also a really easy one to stealthily reapply, no mirror required!

So there's a photo of the finished look. My neck seems to be glowingly white there and a completely different shade to my face, but I assure you that that was not the case in reality! Hopefully this has delivered you with some Valentine's makeup inspo and I hope you all have a great Valentine's day, no matter what your plans are! Do let me know if you've tried any of these products or, if you feel like sharing, what your plans are for Sunday! Personally, I'm really looking forward to all the Valentine's chocolate being on offer. Just me? Okay.
