MAC Makeup Starter Kit

MAC Makeup Starter Kit, lipstick, blush, eye shadow, lip liner, paint pot, mac makeup to try, mac makeup for beginners, review

I thought I'd start the week with a bit of a different post today! MAC is by far one of my favourite makeup brands and I've accumulated quite the collection over the years. I do, however, know that the sheer mass of products and shades available can be a tad overwhelming! Today I thought I'd put together a "starter kit" of sorts for those who are curious, those who want to get into the brand or anyone who's just looking for a few new favourites! Whether you're looking to try a lot of different products or perhaps just after a MAC lipstick recommendation, I hope this is helpful!

MAC Quad - From top left clockwise: Amber Lights, Cranberry, All That Glitters and Woodwinked.

Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly // Of all the products in this little roundup, this is the one I use the most. This is by far the best eyeshadow primer I've ever tried! Whether you want to prime before eyeshadow or just even out the colour of your lids, this is a fab product. Shadow stays in place, looks vibrant and doesn't crease. Huge thumbs up from me!

Eyeshadow Quad // I really recommend buying an empty quad if you're looking to try some eyeshadows from MAC. Not only is it far more practical and easier to travel with, but it also works out cheaper than buying the individual shadows. I built my quad up over the space of a few months (splashing out for the quad and four eyeshadows all at once would've been a bit much for my bank balance) and that also means you don't feel rushed to choose your shades!

Eye Shadow // There are so many shades to choose from in the MAC eyeshadow range and I always do a lot of research and swatching before I settle for one! The shades in my quad are as follows: Amber Lights, a gorgeous bright gold/copper shade, Cranberry, a metallic reddish, pink shade, All That Glitters, a pinky champagne shade and Woodwinked, a bronzey taupe shade. Yes, I'm awful at describing shades. I find that there are a lot of looks I can create with these shades and they're definitely my most used of the ones I own! I especially recommend the last two if you're looking for more everyday shades, they've both stood the test of time and I've used them a whole lot!

Powder Blush in Fleur Power // Aside from the name of this blush being adorable, it's just about the most pigmented one I own! It looks like I've barely touched this, but that's only because you literally need the lightest touch of this and you're good to go. This is a super flattering peachy pink that I imagine will look good on a lot of people and it's definitely a favourite of mine. Plus it's massive and will last you an absolute age!

Lip Pencil in Whirl // This is a classic from MAC and definitely a product a lot of people will already own! I just think this is such a great liner to use both under lipstick and by itself. The shade of this is lovely, it's a brown, dusky rose (there I go again with the poor shade descriptions!) and I find that it just complements a simple eye look so well!

Lipstick in Velvet Teddy // If you're a regular reader of my blog you're probably sick to death of hearing me go on and on about this lipstick! In the photos you can probably tell that I've barely twisted it up at all and that's because that is literally all I have left of it - sob. This is one of MAC's matte lipstick formulas and it's super creamy and really glides onto the lips. It's pigmented, not too drying and the shade is just about the prettiest nude I've ever found. It's definitely on the browner side of things as far as nudes go, but it's such a flattering colour! A bit of a perma-fixture in my handbag and an all-round great lipstick!

So those are my recommendations for products to try out if you're looking to pay a visit to a MAC counter! There are so many great products to try and it's definitely a brand I keep going back to. You can routinely find me stalking the MAC counters, swatches all up my arm, purse in hand - it's without a doubt one of my favourite places to shop! What are some of your favourite products from MAC?

  2. I saved this to my Pinterest boards because believe it or not... I'm a MAC virgin. I own not one of their products! I think it's mainly because they aren't sold anywhere near me and when I do see their counter its like you said... I've overwhelmed with options.

Thanks for a great reference for where to start! xo

    1. I find that it's a bit hit and miss with MAC eyeshadows sometimes. For the most part they're fab but some of the mattes are a bit chalky. Definitely worth having a swatch in store, but overall I do love their eyeshadows! xo

  7. You make me want to head off to the next MAC store and buy everything you have listed! A lovely little starter kit for sure :)
I also really love the eyeshadow shade "Satin Taupe" which is a darker grey shade, works amazing on it's own especially during Autumn and Winter :) xx
