Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit

Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit, drugstore makeup, affordable makeup kit. budget eyeshadow palette, foundation, beauty, review

It's no secret that makeup is pricey stuff and even covering just the basics can result in a pretty hefty price tag if you're buying mid to high-end beauty. Enter the drugstore! The isles of Boots and Superdrug have always been a favourite of mine and I spent many an afternoon after school trawling through all the different stands back in the day. Today I thought I'd put together a little drugstore makeup starter kit for anyone just getting into makeup, looking to expand their collection or just searching for a new favourite or two!

Base // Let's start with the base, shall we? In terms of drugstore foundations, Rimmel's where it's at in my opinion. I've been a diehard fan of the Match Perfection Foundation for years now. It's fab for dry skin, lasts well throughout the day and is super affordable! There are no prizes for guessing my concealer of choice! The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is unrivalled in my collection. The lasting power is fab, it covers up blemishes and whatever else and it stays where you put it! To set everything in place, the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder is my guy. This stuff is so finely milled and keeps things looking matte without giving you cake-face.

Complexion // I like to warm up my fairly lacklustre complexion with a bit of bronzer and it's been a right struggle finding one without shimmer that didn't make me look like someone off Jersey Shore. When I stumbled upon the Catrice Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder it immediately became a firm fixture in my makeup routine. It's very pigmented so you really only need a tiny bit and it gives you a lovely warm glow. Speaking of glow, the Sleek Powder Blush in Rose Gold adds a nice wash of colour to the cheeks, whilst leaving a lovely golden glowy finish. These two were pretty much my ride or die products for most of last summer!

Brows // Up until fairly recently, I really didn't think the drugstore had much to offer in the brow department, bar a few dodgy orange-y brown pencils. However, in the last year, drugstore brands have really upped their game and there have been so many new brow product releases. My favourite, without a doubt, has been the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil. This is such a fab product for anyone looking to add some definition to their brows. The shade I use (Blondeshell) is a great, cool-toned taupe, the pencil has an amazing formula and the tip is so teeny-weeny and thin that it makes cheating a few extra brow hairs a piece of cake. To set things in place, a great product is the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper. Mine has lasted me absolutely ages and I've yet to find a better brow gel for both filling in sparse areas as well as fixing the hairs in place all day.

Eyes // I always like to prime lids before I apply eyeshadow and the best candidate I've found for this from the drugstore is the NYX HD Eye Shadow Base. You just dot a little of this onto your lids, blend it in and your eyeshadow lasts all day without creasing! In terms of eyeshadow, I wanted to include a palette that's very versatile, but also super affordable so I went for the Wet 'n Wild Comfort Zone Eyeshadow Palette. This is such an amazing palette, the shadows are buttery and pigmented and they blend out like a dream. You can create a soft daytime look with this, or make things more dramatic for the evening, all for a super affordable price. Definitely one to pick up if you want a budget product that's amazing quality! Last but not least we have the Maybelline The Falsies Feather Look Mascara. I've actually nicked my sister's one of these for photography purposes, but if you're looking for long, fluttery lashes then this is the one for you. The Maybelline The Falsies line has been a favourite of mine for years and it's definitely worth a try if you're in the market for a budget mascara!

Lips // I was wondering if I should stick a whole array of lip products in this post because I have so many that I love from the drugstore, but in the end I settled on one - round of applause, please. The H&M Cream Lipstick in Cream Chestnut is a nude that I think is super versatile and will look good on a lot of different people. The H&M lipsticks are super creamy, so pigmented and last very well for a non-matte formula. I usually have this floating around in my handbag somewhere, ready to apply if I need a bit of extra colour!

So those are my picks for putting together a little drugstore makeup starter kit. These products are the things that I use on a daily basis, so whilst this might seem like a lot for some people, it may not be quite enough for others! I hope I've struck a decent balance nonetheless and given you a little inspiration as to what to pick up the next time you're in the drugstore! What are some of your drugstore picks? Have a lovely weekend and happy Friday!
