The Brown Lip Edit

It feels like brown lipstick is absolutely everywhere and even the slow, creeping onset of spring has done nothing to quell the hype. I'm not sure what it is but there's something I absolutely love about a brown lip. Be it nude, bold or sheer, it's right up my alley and probably in my handbag. I was really hesitant to try brown lip colours at the start as they're certainly be a bit of a daunting colour to wear, so today I thought I'd round up my all-time faves and give you some brown-spo - right, I'll never say that again, I promise! So here are my favourite brown nudes, bolds and everything in between!

The Brown Lip Edit, brown lipstick, brown lips, mac whirl, mac stone, mac velvet teddy, kat von d lolita, jouer noisette, wet n wild bare it all, wet n wild sand storm, catrice lets go brown town, review, swatches

MAC Whirl Lip Pencil - This liner has really made a name for itself over the last year or two. I've talked a lot about how I really bought into the whole Kylie Jenner hype around this product, but that palaver aside, it's turned out to be a fab product. Whether you wear this under lipstick or by itself, it's such a gorgeous shade and still has enough pink to it to be a safe option if you don't want to go all in with the brown!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Lolita - Another cult product here and this one is almost permanently sold out! I'm still rationing out my mini one of this because whenever I go on Sephora this one's not available! This is one of the best liquid lipstick formulas I've tried, not too drying, opaque and super long lasting. The shade is a deep browny/mauve that really makes a statement and looks gorgeous during the day and in the evening!

Jouer Long Wear Lip Crème Liquid Lipstick Noisette - This is a bit of a recent find for me, but I've worn it almost nonstop since I bought it! I wrote a full review on the Jouer Long Wear Lip Crèmes on Monday, but these are probably the best liquid lipsticks I've tried. This applies like a dream, without any streakiness or flaking and it's a true brown that still manages to look super flattering.

MAC Lipstick Velvet Teddy - So this one is definitely a nudey brown and not as much of a statement as some of the darker shades I've mentioned here, but it's one of my favourite lipsticks ever! This is the most flattering shade I think I've ever worn and somehow it manages to look good with almost every makeup look. This is one of MAC's matte formulas, which I'm personally really a fan of as they're creamy and long lasting. A great one if you want to dabble in brown but want to keep things looking nice and nude!

Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lip Color Bare It All - Really I've stuck this in here because it's a much cheaper dupe for Velvet Teddy. It's got the same dusty rose brown shade, almost identical formula (slightly less long wearing), only it's a fraction of the price. If you want a full comparison post I've done one here! The packaging may not be the best, but the product is pretty darn great!

Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lip Color Sand Storm - I realise that this just looks super red in the swatch below, but believe me it definitely leans more to the brown side! If you're a fan of more warm toned/brick reddish browns (still dishing out the subpar shade descriptions over here) then this one is a great shade to try! It's another matte offering and the formula is super creamy and pretty long wearing. A bit of a different brown but very pretty nonetheless!

Catrice Luminous Lips Lipstick Let's Go Brown Town - If you can't tell by the photos, my tube of this is in pretty poor condition because I'm pretty sure I left my bag in the sun and it melted. That aside, this is a fairly unique product in my opinion. I haven't found a lot of pigmented sheer brown lipsticks around, and this really packs a punch in terms of opacity. It definitely gives you a brown pout and although the sheerness of the formula means it isn't as long lasting, it does mean it's more forgiving if you're prone to dry lips as well as having a very moisturising effect. A great one if you're looking for an affordable brown with some gloss to it!

MAC Lipstick Stone - This is perhaps my most worn of the bunch, as of late. I stuck this in my last favourites post because I've been wearing it so often and it's been in my handbag for weeks now! This is such a unique shade; it's definitely a brown but there's no pink to it whatsoever and it almost leans more to the grey side. I'd say this is the boldest shade of all the ones I've mentioned and although it looks a bit scary in the bullet, it honestly looks so gorgeous with a simple makeup look. I like to pair this with lashings of mascara and plenty of highlighter - a great combo, even for spring!

I hope this has been somewhat helpful to anyone looking to invest in some brown lip options! There are so many out there and I think a big part of wearing brown lipstick is finding a shade and formula that works for you. I for one am a brown lipstick convert and I think there's a great brown out there for everyone! What are some of your favourite brown lip products? Have a great weekend and happy Friday!

  6. Velvet Teddy is now one of my absolute favorites. I remember getting it when my hair was dark brown (my natural color) but it didn't look good on me for some reason, or at least I thought so. I later bleached a part of my hair and now I love it so much, I don't know if it was the hair but it's now my every day color <3
