5 Bold Matte Lipsticks for Summer

Although summer is fast approaching, we're definitely lacking slightly in the sun department. These last few weeks have been a blur of muggy temperatures, anoraks and frizzy hair here in Zurich and it certainly hasn't really felt like summer! Nonetheless, I've been cracking out the bright colours in the hope that the weather will adjust accordingly. Some of my favourite lipsticks to wear during the warmer months are bold, matte lipsticks. They stay put throughout the day and mean that you can wear a simple outfit, not really bother with eye makeup and still look like you've made an effort. Without further ado, here are five of my favourite bold, matte lipsticks for summer!

MAC Lady Danger - I remember waiting a long while before picking up this lipstick because I didn't think I could pull it off. I finally decided to just bite the bullet and give it a go and I'm so glad I did! This is one of MAC's Matte formulas, which means that it's both creamy and long lasting. Whilst I do find their Retro Matte line slightly drying, I'm fine with this formula. The shade of this is absolutely gorgeous. If a lip product is too orange I find it's very unflattering on my skin tone, but this somehow walks the line between red and orange and makes me look fresh faced and tanned. Such a lovely one for the warmer weather!

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Lip Color Coral-ine - I've spoken about the MegaLast Lip Color line a fair few times on the blog already; they're affordable, super creamy and very pigmented. I have a few shades from the range, but Coral-ine is definitely the one that packs the biggest punch when it comes to bold pigment. This is, as the name suggests, a coral shade that leans slightly more to the pinker side of red and looks really lovely on the lips. The finish of these lipsticks is more demi-matte than some of the others but that means it doesn't dry out your lips!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème Je T'Aime - This is a teeny tiny mini I got with a Sephora lip kit a little while ago and I wore it a lot last summer. It's a gorgeous bright, raspberry red and it looks fab both applied properly as well as lightly patted onto the lips for a softer look. This one is probably the least bold of the bunch, but it's still one I tend to wear only when I'm doing less with my eye makeup. This is also more of a demi-matte finish and isn't quite as long-lasting, but it does leave behind a very pretty stain.

MAC Tropic Tonic - This was actually a gift and not a shade I would ever have picked out for myself. When I first tried it, I was quite pale and I wasn't sure if the shade really suited me. After the initial back and forth, however, I completely fell in love with this colour. I'm pretty sure this is one of the more recent additions to the MAC Matte line along with a bunch of new shades that were added last year. I've found that this lipstick works best on me when I have a bit of a tan (be it natural or bronzer), with a lot of glow and a few lashings of mascara. If you're after a gorgeous coral, give this one a swatch!

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Audacious - I've had this lipstick for a while and whilst I absolutely love the colour, if I properly apply it, it can wash me out a bit. Instead, I really like to pat this onto my lips a bit to just leave a hint of coral. The formula is creamy enough that you can just create a not-so-precise, slightly smudgey matte coral lip. I'm fully aware that I probably haven't made that sound all that appealing, but don't knock it 'til you've tried it! A bit of this, a lot of bronzer and a nice neutral eye and you're good to go!
