Four Bases that Pack an SPF-Punch

It's so easy to underestimate the sun's rays when you're out and about during the day. I'm no saint when it comes to remembering to apply SPF, particularly to my face, however, it is so, so, so important to make the extra effort to protect your skin. For that reason, I tend to go for bases that have decent SPF already in them, i.e. SPF 20 and up. Today I thought I'd round up four of my favourite bases that look lovely on the skin and also pack a punch when it comes to sun protection!

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation | SPF 20 - I know that this might be a little low for some people and this definitely wouldn't be my pick of the four if I know I'm going to be in the sun for a longer period of time. However, for days when I'm running errands or popping in and out, this is the foundation I reach for. It has medium coverage and the finish of it is natural and slightly dewy. It's also under a tenner, so it won't break the bank!

Erborian BB Crème Au Ginseng | SPF 25 - I've actually just had a little google of this product and whilst mine clearly states that the SPF is 25, the one on Space.NK (also in new packaging) states that it's only 20. I'm not sure if they've reformulated the product but apparently the SPF has decreased. This is kind of the same deal as the Rimmel, good for brief outdoor stints, not recommended for prolonged sun exposure. I'd say that this is slightly heavier than what you'd typically expect from a BB cream, but it's a lovely summery base nonetheless and leaves your skin looking smooth and glowy.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation | SPF29 - This was a foundation that I really didn't expect to have decent SPF at all. It's so light in texture that I figured there was no SPF in it at all, but lo and behold, on the back, in tiny print it specifies an SPF of 29. Impressive. If you have dry skin then you should definitely give this foundation a try, it's so dewy and looks gorgeous and natural on the skin. I have to powder this quite a bit as my skin is a little too oily for it as of late, but aside from that it's a fab product with very decent sun protection.

Erborian CC Crème | SPF 45 - This has by far the highest SPF of all of the base products in my collection, and when I go out to the beach or I know I'll be spending the day in the sun, this is what I reach for so that I can achieve a light, natural looking base with great sun protection. It seems that this has also been reformulated to have a lower SPF now, which is slightly annoying, but hopefully certain stores will still have the original version. Either way, this is a lovely base for minimal makeup that lasts well even in the sun!

So there we have it, a few bits that'll give you a great base along with some decent SPF! It's worth saying that SPF does need to be topped up as the day goes on, so keeping some form of it with you if you know you're going to be out in the sun for a while is definitely a good idea! Do you look for bases that contain SPF? Please leave me any recommendations below!

  1. I really love the Bare Minerals Gel, as that has SPF in! I didn't even realise the Loreal Cushion one did, but thats my everyday base at the moment so its reassuring to know!

  2. Almost all Korean/Japan makeup bases have high spf on them (some even pack until 50!), and they tend to be lightweight, making them even more suitable for summer. I recommend Laneige BB Cushion, not only high on spf but also very comfortable and cooling on the face.

  3. Great finds - lots of goodies I haven't heard of yet. I've never had sunburn troubles so I used to not wear spf on my face except in foundations, but now that I'm trying to wear less makeup (no foundation) in the warmer weather, I've been using spf lotions specifically for the face. Everyone's been mentioning the l'oreal cushion foundation and I really want to try it! But I generally have extra oily skin in the summer, so I'll probably wait til the colder seasons to try it out when my skin is on the drier side.
