Going back to Gloss

For years I let my glosses sink to the bottom of my makeup drawers, reaching almost exclusively for my lipsticks instead. I'd been through one too many gusts of wind and emerged with hair stuck to my lips to bother with lipgloss for a while. Recently, however, I've found myself dipping back into my glosses and even buying new ones (shocker!). I know we're approaching Autumn and glosses tend to be more of a "summer thing" but I think they're going to be an autumnal staple for me. Here are five of my favourites!

NARS Chelsea Girls* - This is just a bit of a classic, isn't it? If you're after something you can slick on every day, without having to worry whether it will or won't go, this is for you. It pretty much always goes. It's not sticky (woo, no hair-to-lip-sticking!) and it's pretty hydrating too.

Manhattan Oh My Gloss! in Beige Babe - These are new, as far as I know and Manhattan isn't a brand I've tried that much from in the past. This is a pale pink gloss with some slight shimmer running through it, that I see pairing very well with a smoky-eye. These are so affordable too and there are a bunch of different shades to choose from.

Chanel Glossimer in Crushed Cherry - Boy, does this look scary in the tube. It's definitely not one you can just slick on, mirrorless, during your morning commute, unless you're a fan of the whole I-just-ate-ten-jam-doughnuts look. I find this works best with a liner underneath, so the colour doesn't bleed, as it is quite bold for a gloss. It doesn't end up looking on the lips what it looks like in the tube, it's definitely more of a berry. Very pretty nonetheless and something a little different to your standard nude!

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Glamour To Go - I picked this up with high hopes of it being an ultra-metallic gloss to top lipsticks with. It's not quite what I expected but there's definitely still some metallic shimmer to it, which I've been loving using over matte nude lipsticks for some added dimension. Essence is a brand that's cheap as chips but has some stellar products in the range and this is definitely one of them.

Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Cream in Rouge Vinyle - Yes, these are marketed as lip creams, but they're definitely more glossy than anything else. This shade is such a stunning red and it leaves behind a really pretty again once it fades. The formula is thicker than the other glosses here, but not sticky or heavy. Plus, the packaging. Absolutely gorgeous!

NARS Chelsea Girls, Essence Glamour To Go, Manhattan Beige Babe, Chanel Crushed Cherry, YSL Rouge Vinyle.

So there we have it, a roundup of the glosses I've been enamoured with lately. There are some autumnal shades in there, so it's still kind of seasonally appropriate, right? Sort of. Do you like glosses? What are some of your favourites? Happy Friday!

Don't forget to follow along!

  1. Chelsea Girls is such a great gloss shade. I'm totally with you-I'm over matte!! I love the look of gloss but I really struggle with the stickiness. I really like the finish of MAC Cremesheen Glosses, they're not too hair-attracting!

Beekeyper - Latest - The MAC quad I actually use!

  2. Chanel Crushes Cherry immediately draw my attention, it's so autumn-y yet still bright enough for these transitional days. My favorite gloss is from Makeup Forever, their color selection and lasting power is amazing.

  3. I need to get back into using glosses too! Love the YSL one :)

  4. The Chanel one is stunning! I've always loved glosses, my favorite at the moment is the Maybelline Color Jolts x

  5. I love how glosses look on the lips but I have so many sparse hairs flying around my face that they always get stuck to my lips and it's so annoying. I'll have to try the NARS one out and see if it works for me :)

  6. I'm definitely much more of a gloss girl than anything else. I love the look of the essence one, may need to pick that up!!
