Sinkside: A Few from Grown Alchemist

Grown Alchemist is a brand I've been curious about for a while now. I kept walking by their products in the skincare department of Jelmoli in Zurich and as per usual I was ogling the packaging. It won me over in the end, and I purchased two bits. I've used both for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts! I also think I'm going to make "Sinkside" into a little series, so I can regularly share the things I have perched by my sink with you and have a little chat about my thoughts on them!

I've needed a new cleanser for a while and I've been back and forth between a lot of products. I'm so wary when it comes to trying new skincare as I have sensitive, combination skin and it doesn't take much for my skin to dislike a product. I had high hopes for the Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser and after being thoroughly assured that this product would not foam up on my face, I purchased it and put it right to the test. Well, I can tell you that this cleanser definitely does foam up, although it has much more of a watery texture than a real lather. The reason why I don't like foaming cleansers is because they can be really stripping on your skin, which in turn, leads to dryness resulting in excess oil production.

I kept an open mind, regardless, however I don't think this cleanser is really for me. I had more breakouts than usual when using it and I think that the gel formula probably isn't the best for my skin. This was on the pricy side, so I think I may still sub it in here and there for a morning cleanse but I highly doubt I'll be repurchasing. On the plus side, it does smell lovely and those with less sensitive skin may get along with it well!

Growing up, I had a mild to medium addiction to scented lip balm. Although I've moved on from my Lip Smackers days, a good scented balm will still get me to splash the cash. When I saw the Vanilla & Watermelon Lip Balm my old addiction surfaced and I found myself picking it up and being reluctant to put it back down. So I didn't. I wasn't able to smell this before I bought it so I was a teeny weeny bit disappointed to find out later that it doesn't really smell like vanilla at all, just watermelon. Although it wasn't quite what I'd hoped for, it does definitely smell like watermelon, which I still absolutely love!

The balm itself exceeded my expectations. I've tried many a balm that sits on your lips, looks nice and shiny, smells good and then proceeds to do absolutely nothing in terms of moisture, or, worse still, make your lips even more dry. Well there's certainly none of that here. You can slick this on for a nice, slightly glossy pout that'll last a fair few hours and it leaves your lips feeling soft and hydrated. Definitely a new favourite!

So there we have it, not so impressed with the one and a very big fan of the other. I'd still like to try more from this brand, as I have heard good things and also, the packaging. I'm a sucker for good packaging. Have you tried anything from Grown Alchemist?

  4. Never heard of this brand and it's a real shame that cleanser didn't work out. But glad that the lip balm did! I love scented lip balms too :)
