The Blush for Your Lips

When I heard about Bourjois' Sheer Matte concept I was more than a little sceptical. Those are two words you don't often hear together. Nonetheless, my interest was piqued when I spotted the Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet lipsticks, housed in their pretty frosted tubes.

After some mild deliberation I ended up purchasing the shade Carameli Melo. It's a pretty, dusty-orangey-red shade, if that makes any sense whatsoever. I did think it would be slightly more brown, but I liked the colour nonetheless. After purchasing I promptly headed to a mirror in the drugstore to apply my newest lip product. And proceeded to wear it for the rest of the day.

Since then I've put it to the test a few more times, so I feel like I can sum up a few of my thoughts. I really don't think I've ever tried a lip product like this. The only thing I can compare it to, is a gel blush that's marketed as a cheek and lip product. The texture feels almost silicone-y and if you try to build it, it'll definitely go streaky and patchy. Bear in mind though (I had to remind myself a few times) that it's a sheer lip product, so buildability isn't really on it's repertoire.

The end result is pretty much a blush for your lips (which looks much more sheer than in the above photo!) . If you're expecting a sheer lip like you've seen it before, along with some hydration then you're not going to get it. This product really is matte and gives you a wash of colour that quickly dries (or rather blends into your lips) into nothing at all aside from a stain. That means that it can feel a little drying after prolonged wear, so adding a bit of lip balm here and there is a good idea.

I do like the concept of this, but I'm not sure I'm quite on board with the texture. I'd like it if there was just a bit more product left on the lip after an hour, instead of just a light stain. Perhaps I'm just old fashioned, not really getting it or not making much sense. For now I think I'll be subbing this in on minimal makeup days along with some balm for a natural, "I-just-ate-a-lot-of-berries" pout.

Is this a product you see yourself trying? Have you tried it already? Let me know your thoughts below!

  1. I loved the sound and idea of this, and the swatch does look nice. Probably won't be getting this as I really hoped it would be more than what you described! Great post :)
