The Drugstore Highlighter Edit

I plan on holding onto my summer glow as we go into autumn (which is so soon it's kind of ridiculous), so I'm still very much into my highlighters. Recently, I've found myself reaching for my affordable highlighters much more than their pricier contenders. These days you really don't have to shell out a small fortune to get your hands on some good quality glow, so I thought I'd round up my favourite highlighters from the drugstore!

Wet 'n Wild Megaglo Multi Stick in Marigold Round - I mentioned this in a post a while back and said I wasn't a huge fan of it for the cheekbones. That does still stand, but having said that it does look lovely on the eyes, as a browbone highlight and on the cupid's bow. Those with less oily skin than mine might find that this works just fine on the cheekbones, so you just have to try it out and see what works for you! You can also use this on your lips, which is something I definitely want to try out.

Wet 'n Wild Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals - This is hands down one of the best affordable highlighting powders I've ever found. It really is just pure shimmer and you'd never think it costs just a few pounds! I also love the champagney shade of this, I find it's one that'll be flattering on a lot of skin tones. If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend picking one of these up!

Gosh Lumi Drops in 002 Vanilla - Since buying these they seem to be sold just about everywhere in Zurich. They seem to still be in stock in the other two shades, but this one is harder to track down. This is one of those highlighters that has the whole "dewy" thing down to a tee. There's no crazy glitter in here, just a lot of sheen that'll leave you looking natural and fresh.

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette - If you're a fan of cream highlighter, this is definitely one to have a look at. The shades in here are absolutely gorgeous and they really do make a fab addition to any highlighter-enthusiast's stash. The packaging is sleek - pun not intended - and sturdy and you get a nice mirror in there too. The brush isn't all that great, but for a drugstore palette, I don't think that's really all that tragic. A lovely one for a more subtle glow!

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette - The shades in here are quite different to the other highlighters I have. The powders really pack a punch; you only need a tiny bit. A few light touches of brush to powder imparts enough product to highlight your cheekbones, nose, browbone and cupid's bow. Not too shabby for under a tenner! I know I always say this with palettes despite not being much of a traveller, but this really is a great palette to take away on holiday with you. Plenty of variety and, as mentioned, good packaging!

L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette in 01 Light - This is for those of you that prefer a matte highlight. This is a contouring duo, so you are also paying for a sculpting shade, but in my opinion it's worth it just for the highlight. If you have dry skin I'd be wary, as the cream formula is slightly dry and can look a bit cakey if my skin isn't moisturised properly. I'd say have a little swatch in store and see if you think it'd work for your complexion. All in all lovely product! (Also good for travel. Okay, I'll stop saying that now).

Hopefully this has given those of you looking for good highlighters on a budget some inspiration. I say it often, but with the selection available at the drugstore these days, you really don't need to break the bank to be able to get good makeup. Yes, it takes some trial and error to find good products, but if you do a little research beforehand, you'll most likely be able to find something you really like. What are some of your favourite highlighters from the drugstore?

Don't forget to follow along!

  1. The Sleek palette is so pretty!

    xo, Liz

  2. I've been wanting to try the L'oreal Palette but I have dry skin - so glad I came across this post! I might try the Sleek one instead xxx

  3. I actually think Fall is season to whip out all our highlighter arsenal ;) I thought Sleek only do Solstice palette (because it's the only thing people talked about), but the precious metal looks as great!
