The Drugstore Powder Edit

As we all know very well by now, I'm a big fan of glow. I am also, however, prone to oiliness and a near-reflective complexion once the evening rolls around. In my many years of buying and trying makeup, I've tried more powders than I care to recall and many of them have been used up and then forgotten. There are few that are really memorable to me, but those that are, stand out for a reason. I use mattifying powders so often that I go through them really quickly, so it pains me to hand over my cash for the high end stuff. When it comes to powder, I like to stick to the budget-friendly options so when I run out, I can restock without breaking the bank. So here are three of my all time faves from the drugstore for keeping things nice and matte!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - I've been using this for years and years, I don't even know how many of them I've been through! As you can see, this one has more pan than powder these days and for good reason! Of all the setting powders I have, this is probably the lightest, which I really like as it makes it a whole lot harder to go overboard with. I use the shade 001 Transparent, which I really like as it sets your makeup without changing the colour of your base. If you're after a bit of shine control but don't want anything too heavy, this is a great one to try!

Catrice Healthy Look Mattifying Powder - As you can see, this one hasn't been in my stash all too long yet. I picked this up on a whim recently after swatching it and seeing that there was an ever so slight sheen to it and hoping it might be a dupe for the Hourglass powders. Alas, it isn't a spot-on dupe, but there definitely is some luminosity to the product, which means you set down your makeup but don't end up looking completely flat. I also love the marbled effect of the powder, extra points there.

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot - This was another impulse buy, but dates back to about early June. Even thought I haven't had it long, I hit pan a while ago. It's only been two months! That's how you know that I'm seriously invested in a product! This is pretty much my go-to powder for setting my makeup on a daily basis, when I know I'll be out and about. Although this is definitely still a very light powder, I'd say it's slightly heavier than the Rimmel and it does keep me look matte for longer. Overall, a great product for a decent price. I'll definitely be repurchasing this when I run out!

So there we have it, the drugstore powders I reach for the most. I love the convenience of powders for freshening up your makeup throughout the day and these three really do a fab job. Do you use mattifying powders? What are some of your favourites?

Don't forget to follow along!

  1. Rimmel Stay Matte & S&G One heck of a blot are two powders I keep hearing good things about when it comes to oily skin, maybe it's my time to try them on ;)

  2. I have sort of dry/combo/normal skin so sometimes I like to use powder on my T-zone if I know it's going to be a hot day! I've heard great things about One Heck of a Blot and Stay Matte :)
