The Summer Foundation that Goes the Distance

Keeping my foundation from literally melting off my face in the recent 28-30ÂșC weather has proved to be quite the challenge. Now, I'm all about glow, especially during summer, but when that glow crosses the line into greaseball it's not so cute. As an oily skinned gal it's a difficult balance to strike, but recently I've finally found a foundation that seems to really keep my skin in check, even when it's scorching outside.

The L'Oreal Infallible 24H-Matt Foundation is nothing new, and it's a product that's been raved about by many a blogger. I've had this on my radar for what feels like absolutely ages and yet I never seemed to remember to actually pick it up. Cut to a few weeks ago, me standing in front of the L'Oreal counter at the drugstore, doing a lot of shade-testing and finally purchasing it.

Let's talk about the shade range real briefly. In short: it sucks. The shade I have is definitely not quite the right match for me, it is too light and too pink, but I can make it work with bronzer (which I've been wearing a lot anyway). The next shade darker would just be straight orange on me. I find it so difficult to find good shade matches for my skin in the drugstore in general, but usually there are more than six shades to choose from (a measly four in Zurich). The line also does not (to my knowledge) cater to darker skin tones at all, which I always think is a shame. The shade debacle is, however, my only real gripe with this product!

I feel like a lot of people may be put off by the "24 hour matte" part of this foundation. Yes, it is a full coverage foundation and yes, it is more matte than your average drugstore base product, but it's definitely not cake-face, super flat level either. I have large pores, so if I don't make sure my skin is properly moisturised, this can enhance them slightly, so I'd recommend moisturising well and using a primer before application.

Of all the drugstore foundations I have, this probably lasts the longest on me. It keeps imperfections covered and doesn't melt off like my other foundations do, even if I am in the sun. However: be aware, this foundation does not contain SPF, so if you are going to be in the sun, I highly recommend mixing in some form of sun protection or applying SPF before you apply foundation. I've been mixing this with an SPF 25 BB cream to make sure I'm sufficiently protected from the sun. It does, however, mean that you can wear this on a night out where there's flash photography and not end up with any flashback.

If I use a primer and powder my face after applying this foundation, it lasts well for pretty much the whole day. Not half bad for a drugstore foundation! Since getting this, it's been pretty much all I've used for my base (aside from SPF!) when I know I'll be out of the house during the day and/or in the sun. If you have combination/oily skin like me then I highly recommend giving this a try!

Overall I really love this foundation, it's managed to become a staple product for me in a matter of weeks. Now they just have to bring out a few more shade options! Have you tried this foundation?

  2. I'm not put off by the finish but the shade - they don't even have in mine so I didn't buy it. I'm sad because with not spf in it, this is great pick for photography/wedding event.

  3. I loved this foundation but the shade was far too pink. I have yellow undertones so there's no way it's ever going to work with my skin. Shame they don't bring out more shades! x
