MAC Nutcracker Sweet Copper Face Compact | Review & Swatches

You've probably seen the MAC Nutcracker Face Compact in Sweet Copper crop up all over your social media. I know that's what triggered me to go out and buy it! It's been a little while since I was interested in a MAC holiday release, but if there's a highlighter in it, chances are, I'm going to at least go and give it a swatch in-store. I picked it up whilst I was in the UK (smart move, as it turns out, it costs almost double in Switzerland!) and I've been using it pretty often since, so today I thought I'd put together a review and some swatches for those of you who are still on the fence about this one!

So first things first: the packaging. When I showed someone this collection the first thing they swooned at was the packaging, which led me to confusedly shove the highlighter in their face so that they'd realise where the true star of the show was. Truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of the bold packaging. I prefer more simple and understated compacts, but that is really just down to personal preference. The sturdiness of the packaging is good and it's magnetic, so it's not too challenging to open, but will stay shut in your makeup bag.

I've already mentioned that the highlighter, Whisper of Gilt, was the real showstopper for me and the main reason why I bought the palette. I'm a sucker for a sheeny highlight and this one is just that. There's not too much shimmer and it doesn't look glittery on the skin. The powder is pigmented and blends nicely, resulting in a gorgeous golden glow that lasts well throughout the day.

I don't think I would've bought this compact had I not also liked the blush, and thankfully, that is the case here! The Pleasure Model blusher is a gorgeous matte copper shade and is super seasonally appropriate. I've been pairing this with warm-toned shadows and a nude lip for the last few days and I absolutely love the autumnal look it gives you. It shares the great pigmentation of the highlighter, so much so, that you should proceed with caution: use a light hand and blend well!

Can you tell I'm a fan? This palette isn't cheap, but I think that considering what you get and the decent size of the pans, it's still on the reasonable side. I also really didn't want to mess up the pretty pattern in the powder, but me using the product ended up taking priority, obvs. Have you tried this palette? Is it on your wish list? Let me know!

  3. This is so pretty! I really do like the packaging of this whole collection. I'd like to get this but gold toned highlights don't suit me at all, unfortunately!

  4. This is such a beautiful palette, the two shades really compliment each other. I can see them both on cheeks and on the eyes, they'd make a gorgeous eye shadow, too!
