Sparkly & Glowy New Year's Makeup

New Year's Eve is right around the corner and like many other bloggers, I'm already planning my makeup. I love any excuse for a bit of glitter, so trust that this will feature a pop of sparkle! Since New Year's also tends to be a bit of a late one I usually factor in longevity, as no one wants to be prancing about in the wee hours of the morning with nothing but a few remnants of mascara clinging to their lashes. So here's a little roundup of the products I'll be using to achieve my makeup on the 31st!

The Base

First and foremost: primer. I like using the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturiser. It does a fab job at blurring out pores and creating an overall smooth base for your makeup. In terms of foundation, I've really been liking using a mixture of the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. The result is a somewhat satin finish that delivers good coverage and stays put for hours. One of my favourite concealers is the Catrice Liquid Camouflage, which I use on both my under eyes and any blemishes before powdering. My powder of choice is the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot, which mattifies and sets without adding extra coverage and making things look cakey.

I rarely do my makeup without using bronzer and I'm very loyal to my Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed. It's a warm toned product, but it's light enough to leave you looking sunkissed as opposed to muddy. The eyes are going to be the main focus in this look (spoiler alert) so I'm keeping blush pretty simple. My go-tos for situations like this are the neutral tones from H&M Beauty. For this look I decided to go with Apricot, which is a lovely dirty peach shade. Highlighter is one of my absolute favourite parts about doing my makeup and I think Becca's Champagne Pop is a very appropriate pick for NYE. I usually focus this on my cheekbones, with a very light dusting along the bridge of my nose and on my cupid's bow. When things look a little too glowy, I like quickly bouncing over it a few times with my Beauty Blender.

The Brows & Eyes

Okay, brows: you know the drill. Urban Decay Brow Beater to fill in sparse areas and tidy up the tail, followed by the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper to add a bit of fullness and set the hairs in place all evening. Same old, same old.

For the eyes, my first step is always priming my lids with MAC's Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly. It sticks eyeshadow to lid like glue and really intensifies the pigment of the shadows. Next we're diving into the Laura Mercier Artist Eye Palette, which is actually no longer available, but the eyeshadow shade in question here, the Matte Eye Colour in Fresco, is still available. Fresco is one of my all-time favourite eyeshadows and it tends to be the main reason why I crack this palette out! I like to blend this all over the lid, taking it up into the crease a bit to act as a sort of soft transition shade. Next step is adding a little more dimension by using the bottom right shade in the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette with a light hand, and taking it through the crease, focussing on the outer V of the eye. Then, with a dampened brush, apply a bit of the glitter shade in the same palette (bottom left) and apply all over the lid. This creates a gorgeous foiled effect on the lid, which looks absolutely fab when it catches the light. Top it off with lashings of your fave mascara, in my case the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, and you're done with the eyes!

The Lips

I'm keeping it so super simple here, because as much as I love a red lip, it tends to be somewhat unrealistic in terms of maintenance once you've had a glass of champagne and a few snacks. Instead I'll be opting for the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Child Star, a gorgeous nude that stays put for hours and goes with most makeup looks.

There you go, done! I'm sorry there's no pic of the finished result, I've been ill for the past four days and been sitting around watching YouTube, drinking tea and feeling sorry for myself. I will, however, try to post a photo of the makeup on Instagram on New Year's Eve (if the light allows it!). I hope you've all had a fab festive season!
