My Ride or Die Nudes

Nude lipstick is by far one of the biggest categories in my collection. What my friends and family call "twenty-five lipsticks that are all the same colour", I prefer to call "a varied selection of different nude tones". There's definitely a theme as far as my taste in nude lipstick goes: A whole lotta browny nudes, some peachy shades, some greigey pinks and not much else. The important thing, however, is that they all look really really different. Really. I thought it was high time I finally rounded up all my absolute favourite nude lipsticks up in one post. These are the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the almost-always-in-my-handbag collection. Deep breath: here we go!

Catrice Luminous Lips Lipstick in Let's Go Brown Town - One of my most used lipsticks ever and by far one of the cheapest in my collection. I love the Catrice Luminous Lips Lipsticks, because they're just so fuss free. As they're sheer, you can apply them without a mirror (or maybe that's just what I do) and the formula feels nice and hydrating. They have this lipstick in a fair few shades, but Let's Go Brown Town has to be one of my favourites. This actually my second tube, I had to repurchase it following a very sad lipstick-melting-in-the-sun incident. It's been pretty much permanently ratting around in my handbag ever since.

NYX Lip Lingerie in Ruffle Trim - I know this line has received a lot of mixed reviews but I actually really like it. The trick with these is to only apply a thin layer. That way you avoid the tackiness that inevitably comes with layering it up. This is such a pretty warm terracotta shade and the formula means it stays put for most of the day. It features a pretty decent (albeit giant) doe-foot applicator, which makes the application process much easier.

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out - I wrote a whole review on this (see here) which ended up practically being an ode to the Always On Liquid Lipstick. In short: I love this. I really can't fault the formula, it's matte, it's long-wearing and it doesn't feel heavy on the lips. As we've established, I like a brown-y nude, so this one was a given. It's slightly cooler in tone than Ruffle Trim but the shades aren't worlds apart. A bit of a pricier one, but well worth it in my opinion.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Screenshot - If you fancy something less matte and slightly peachier, then this one's for you! It's one of Colourpop's Ultra Satin Lips, which means it doesn't completely dry down like the Ultra Mattes, but also isn't as drying. It will transfer and fade throughout the day, but won't cost you the hydration of your lips! I like this shade a lot paired with a bronzey eye and lashings of mascara.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick in Child Star - I'm so, so happy I managed to track this down, because I had it on my list for absolutely ages! It's is a super-matte, super pale, greigey pink colour and it'll definitely draw the focus to your eye makeup. If you're horrified at the pale hue when you first apply this, fear not, it darkens as it dries down and ends up being a somewhat deeper pinky nude. I really like the formula here too. It's a matte one, but not too horrifically drying and with very good staying power.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Midi - Alright, yes, this is super super similar to the previous shade. Midi is, however, more pink, something you (or just I) can definitely see in the swatches. This is another colour that you can don if you want something super nude for when you've got a lot going on with your eye makeup. The formula is dry - there's no two ways about it. If you hate the feeling of very dry lipstick on your lips, dodge this line altogether, you probably won't like it. It does, however, mean that the lasting power is amazing and that the colour will easily stay put for a whole night out.

MAC Velvet Teddy - I used to write about this every other week when I first started blogging and we all know what a ridiculous hype there was around it. It's been somewhat neglected thanks to the sudden and often very large influx of nude lipsticks into my collection, but it just still is one of my ride or die lipsticks. The formula is one of MAC's Mattes and I really like it. It's not as dry or as cakey as the Retro Matte formula, but not as slippy as the Satin. It's matte without sucking the hydration out of your lips and still manages to have a creamy texture. The colour of this is also so flattering on my skin tone and goes with so many different makeup looks. Still smitten after all these years!

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anita - Another oldie but a goodie. I wrote about the Audacious line very recently, it's definitely one of my faves from NARS. This is the pinkest of the bunch and probably wouldn't necessarily be classified as a nude by everyone, but for me this is still very much a nude lipstick. It just goes with so many different looks and can still qualify (in my opinion) as a my-lips-but-better shade. The good ol' MLBB. I'd say this has a demi-matte finish, it's really creamy but it lasts so well throughout the day. Plus the packaging is magnetic, so that's a bonus within itself.

From left to right: Let's Go Brown Town, Ruffle Trim, Stepping Out, Screenshot, Child Star, Midi, Velvet Teddy and Anita.

That was a whole lot of lipstick talk, I hope I didn't lose you there! Nude lipsticks always have and probably always will be my favourite products to buy, they're just so versatile and you can wear them for pretty much any occasion. Despite the fact that I was 90% of the people I snapchatted the above arm of swatches to, responded saying, "those legit all look the same", I have faith that a lot of you are kindred spirits here. They're all different! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and Happy Friday!

  1. Ooooh these are such gorgeous nude shades! I'm after a new ride or die nude - I recently got a new tube of mine (Lime Crime Cashmere) but sadly the formula and shade are quite different from when I originally purchased! I may try some of the lovely shades you've listed here.
