Polishes for Neutral-Lovers

Finding a great neutral shade for your nails that looks as good on as it does in the bottle isn't always an easy feat. I've bought shades that I thought I'd love, only to apply them and either be like "meh" or straight up confronted with the harsh reality of mannequin hands. It's not cute. I tend to like my neutrals to be either pinky browns or varying shades of greige, so that's the predominant vibe of the picks I'll be chatting about today. If, like me, you fancy a good neutral, then here are some to put on your shopping list!

Smith & Cult Doe my Dear - Smith & Cult are a fairly new discovery to me and the only thing stopping me from splurging on more shades is the fear of the damage it'll do to my bank balance. Yes, these are pricy but in terms of quality they're some of the best I've tried in ages! This particular shade is right up my street. It's a greige (shocker) that adds a great finishing touch to any outfit. I like to call these types of colours "classy shades" because I'm apparently five years old, but also because I think they make your talons look cool but still grown up.

Maybelline SuperStay 7 Days Gel Nail Polish in Barely Yours - I've definitely spoken about this shade before, but if you like your pinks to be pretty pink, but still not flashy, this is the one for you. This formula is tried and true, it'll stay put through most things and bar tip wear, I can get away with this for about four days (a lot for me!) before things start looking a little chippy. Very affordable and easily accessible too!

O.P.I Barefoot in Barcelona - This was probably one of my favourite nail polish discoveries from the whole of last year. If you're a fan of browny nudes, this is a gorgeous pick. I feel like this is the kind of shade you often see the Kardashians or the Jenners rocking (my apologies if you hate them) and it somehow just looks very cool whilst retaining a degree of effortlessness. I was pleasantly surprised by the lasting power of this. It looks good for days on the nails, even without a top coat!

Essie Gel Couture in Touch Up - I've read some mixed reviews about this line, but this is the only shade I have from it, so I can't really weigh in much on the range as a whole. My experience with this colour in particular has been very positive! It lasts way better on my nails than my other Essie polishes and it's shinier to boot. I'd say this is a very neutral lavender with just a touch of grey to it, to keep it from being a sickly sweet colour. A great pick if you're looking to sport some colour without making much of a statement.

YSL Beige Gallery - Another greige! This one definitely leans more to the beige side of things compared to the Smith & Cult offering. It's a super classic colour and yet another polish that makes you look a bit more put together. It's not the kind of colour your eye is immediately drawn to, but that's kind of what I like about it. I heard a lot of good things about the formula of these prior to trying it out for myself and I can confirm that it is indeed very good quality. It also doesn't hurt that the bottle looks gorgeous perched on a vanity!

So there we go, a few of my faves for neutral nails! My nails are quite brittle and dry naturally, so when I find a formula I like I tend to run with it! All the polishes mentioned above are great quality so I highly recommend checking them out if you're on the hunt for a few failsafe neutrals. I love finding new nail polish favourites, so if you have any go-tos, please let me know! Have a fantastic weekend and happy Friday!

Don't forget to follow along!

  1. I'm so desperate to try Smith & Cult but keep shying away because of the price. I'm so tempted now though as this shade particularly is stunning!

  2. I love neutral nail colors! You should check out Revlon's gel nail polish in "checkmate" it's so pretty.

  3. Two of my absolute favourites are OPI Dulce de Leche (a pinky nude) and OPI Taupe-less Beach (a greige). I keep seeing Smith and Cult pop up everywhere - love their unique packaging!

  4. I've heard great things about the new essie polishes so I'll have to pick some up!
