Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick | Stepping Out

I cannot tell you how long I've been waiting to try out the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks! I'd heard such amazing things about the formula and the shade lineup is kind of an amazing one. When the shade Stepping Out* landed on my desk at work, I took to the bathroom to try it out straight away. Since then I've been using it pretty much every other day, so I thought it was high time I share my thoughts on it!

First off: the packaging. I know this isn't the fanciest packaging out there, but I quite like how minimal and sleek it is. It's super easy to see which colour is which, thanks to the transparent plastic tube. It houses a little teardrop-shaped doe foot applicator, the tip of which makes it much easier to precisely apply the lipstick to the perimeter of the lips.

The shades in the lineup range from cool, browny nudes to bright, bold colours. Stepping Out is the typical type of shade I'd go for: a nice browny nude with a hint of warmth to it. If you're someone who likes the 90's lip shades, then this is probably one you might like. It goes with many an eye look and looks great worn by itself with lashings of mascara, too.

When you first apply it, it takes a little while for it to dry down into a matte finish, as with other matte liquid lipsticks. Once the finish becomes matte, there is a very slight tackiness left to the lip, not enough to be bothersome, but enough that it doesn't feel like you're wearing a dry liquid lipstick at all. That's something I like the most about this particular lipstick: it doesn't really feel like you're wearing a liquid lipstick at all. The usual dry, cakey, need-some-lip-balm-pronto feeling isn't there. Instead, you feel like you're wearing just a regular satin/matte lipstick.

If I don't eat a very greasy meal, this also wears very well over time. Even if I feel like there's only remnants left of this on my lips, I look in the mirror and find that there's only minimal patchiness. I ended up switching this in for New Year's Eve instead of the lipstick I originally had planned, as I wanted a slightly darker lip colour for the eye look I was sporting. I drank a few drinks and ate about a family-sized packet of crisps over the course of a few hours and the lipstick still looked pretty darn decent.

Overall, I'm super impressed with this formula. They're released in Switzerland towards the end of January and I'm so much looking forward to picking up two other shades I've had my eye on: Driver's Seat and Out Loud. If you fancy investing in a good liquid lipstick and you can get your hands on these, I highly recommend checking them out and giving them a swatch in store. I'd even go as far as to say that this is one of the best nude liquid lipsticks I've ever tried! Very high praise from me!
