The Best Drugstore Palettes

Some of my all-time favourite beauty finds are discoveries I made in the aisles of the drugstore. I've said it so many times, but you don't need to spend a fortune to get great makeup. I've tried my fair share of affordable makeup over the years and there are definitely a few standout products. Palettes are amongst my favourite things to purchase because they're just so darn practical. Having everything compactly and conveniently in one place? Sign me up. There is, however, a whole lotta choice, so I thought today I'd round up some tried and true favourites!

Bronx Colors Strobing Palette - Forget the "strobing" part of this palette, as I'm still not totally sure what that means, and think of it as just a plain old cheek palette. The middle shade in here is the most gorgeous champagney highlight. It imparts a "lit from within" glow to the skin and looks really subtle. The shade on the very right, which I'd class as a blush on my skin tone, is a beautiful, luminous rosy colour. There is a bit of a dud in here for me, as the shade on the left is just too glittery for my liking. If a super sparkly highlighter is something you're not bothered by, then you just might like it. All in all a lovely, glowy bunch for a very affordable price.

Wet 'n Wild Comfort Zone Palette - If someone utters the words "drugstore" and "palette" in the same sentence, this is the first thing that pops into my head. I love this palette so, so much, even though I don't use a good half of the shades in it! The green shades aren't for me, but the pink, copper and champagne colours I'm all about. What I think is the real winner here, however, is the duochrome Definer shade. It's a brown metallic shadow that has an amazing greeny-blue iridescence to it when it catches the light. I haven't seen much else like it in the drugstore. The formula of these shadows is creamy, pigmented and blendable. I have pricy shadows that don't match the performance of these and I think it's a total steal! Whether you're just starting out in makeup or you have a stash that takes up half your room: this is a fab pick.

Rimmel 5 Pan Eyeshadow in Brixton Brown - Rimmel is one of my favourite drugstore brands and my go-to for affordable foundations. If I'm honest, I pretty much only bought this little palette for the gorgeous reddish-brown shade in the middle. To me, this is akin to the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette. The shades aren't exact dupes and the warm toned brown shade in the CT palette is definitely more brown than the Rimmel shadow, but if you're looking for a similar colour combination for a fraction of the price, this is one to have a look at. The formula is pigmented and blendable, especially the red shade in the middle. I'd go as far as to say that this palette is worth buying even if it is just for that one shadow (although the rest aren't half bad either)!

Maybelline Diamond Glow in Coral Drama - This was a very recent purchase and a bit of an impulse-buy. I was just wowed by the colours, snatched it (it was the last one) and put it in my basket. I'll be honest, this one takes a little more work in terms of formula than the others. The colours are more sheer (particularly the orange shade on the top left) but they can be built up with a bit of time and effort. The end result you get when you use these together is just so gorgeous that it completely won me over. Plus the pans are huge, so you do get a whole lot of product in here too!

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette - I couldn't do a whole post about stellar drugstore palettes and leave this one out. If you manage to get your hands on this (it's almost perma-sold out) I'd grab it. The powders in here are amongst some of the most pigmented and intense highlighters I have in my collection. If you're someone who loves an intensely glowy look, this is your guy. It houses four shades, three powders and one cream, and a nicely sized mirror. Of all the palettes here, this definitely has the most luxe-looking packaging, which doesn't hurt either! If you fancy a different shade selection, check out some of Sleek's other highlighting palettes, I have almost all of them and they're all pretty amazing!

So there we go, a roundup of my favourite palettes from the drugstore. I cannot even begin to tell you how much of a challenge it was to photograph these. Drugstore palettes may be great and affordable, but man does the packaging (bar Sleek) leave a lot to be desired. As long as what's inside works well, I guess! What're some of your favourite palettes from the drugstore?
