Five Fuss-Free Lip Options for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is upon us tomorrow and love it or hate it, it seems to be somewhat omnipresent. There are pink hearts and roses plastered across shops, floating around TV ads and all over social media. VDay doesn't, however, need to be about being single or in a relationship, it can just be a good opportunity to show your lurve to those you hold dearest. This year I'll likely be parked on the couch with pizza and wine but for those of you who are going to be making a day of it, be it with your other half or your pals, I thought I'd round up some nice, fuss-free lip options. If I know I'll be going out for a meal or drinks, I tend to keep the lipstick very minimal. Red lips are all fine and dandy until you try to eat something and end up with it smudged down your chin. These are a few of my low-maintenance lip product picks that require minimal effort so you can fully focus on your Valentine's plans!

NARS Lip Gloss in Chelsea Girls* - I really like the NARS glosses as they're pigmented but aren't sticky at all. Having your hair perma-stuck to your lips isn't exactly a good look, nor is it particularly comfortable. This is a gorgeous pinky, peachy nude shade that I think will complement almost any makeup look. It wears well without bunching up or bleeding so you can top up as you please, without having to worry about it looking funny as it fades.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 02 - These have been a long-time favourite of mine because they're ideal for pretty much any situation. If I don't know what to wear on my lips, I'll slick on a layer of this. Yes, it's technically a gloss, but to be honest it feels more like a balm as there's no stickiness to it whatsoever and it's ever so slightly hydrating. This isn't really a shade that's going to show up much on your lips. I tend to use it more to give my lips a bit of a healthy sheen so they're not completely bare, which really adds a nice finishing touch to your makeup. These also happen to taste fab (coughcoughcough).

Grown Alchemist Vanilla and Watermelon Lip Balm - For those of you that want nothing more than a quick layer of balm and some shine to your lips, this is a fantastic one. First off, it smells like watermelon. That's already a win in my books. Secondly, this actually leaves your lips looking really glossy, something I'm super wary of with balms as it tends to mean they're drying. That's not the case with this one at all. It delivers high shine whilst keeping your pout hydrated and requiring pretty much no effort whatsoever. Just be careful when using it, as the metal tube means product does leak out when you open the cap.

Benefit Benebalm - Of all the tinted balms Benefit does, this is by far my favourite. It packs an impressive punch when it comes to pigment and imparts a lovely, rosy tint on the lips. The texture is really emollient and it smells of roses, which I absolutely love. It's pretty hard to go overboard with this one as it does still stay pretty sheer. If you're looking for a subtle pop of colour to go with your makeup, look no further!

H&M Cream Lipstick in Cream Chestnut - This is the only "proper" lipstick I've included in here, but the shade of it means that you don't really notice if it starts to wear off slightly. The H&M lipsticks are up there with my favourite affordable lip products, as the pigmentation is amazing and the formula is super creamy. Me being me, I obviously had to include a browny-nude in here, so that's exactly what this one is! It's such a beautiful colour and it wears really well, as well as having some really impressive lasting power. Plus, that packaging is pretty darn decent considering the price!

So there we have it, my lip picks for Valentine's Day. If you're someone who favours lip products that have some sheen to them and won't dry out your lips, these are great options for day-to-day wear too! No matter what your plans are for Valentine's Day, whether you've got a swanky evening lined up or you're completely ignoring it and eating curry at home, I hope you have a fab day! Do you have anything lined up for VDay? I'm nosy so I'd love to hear about your plans, let me know!
