February 2017 Beauty Favourites

Usually I start these monthly fave posts off with some allusion to how the month has flow by, how I can't believe it's already been four weeks, blah, blah, blah. Not today, folks. Despite it being the shortest month of the year, February has just schlepped by, dragging its feet with every step. Even so, when I went to bed post-midnight last night (on a school night, no less - wild) and saw that my phone said 1st of March, I thought I was in some kind of weird, delayed weekend hangover haze. I probably assumed February would never end! Yet here we are, on the cusp of spring, armed with pinks, peaches, and seasonally inappropriate shoes, ready to embrace the new season. First, though, here's the best in beauty from the month of February!

Kiehl's Skin Rescuer - It finally happened, I bit the bullet and purchased a full size of this guy. Yes, it was in my December faves, but I thought it deserved another honourable mention because I love it so much. It's horrendously expensive here in Switzerland, especially for someone who's used to counting out their pennies and heading to the drugstore for most of their skincare, but fabulously worth it. I'll be using this sparingly and buying a lot more pot noodle for a while!

MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush - This isn't a new discovery by any means, but since my effort levels have been somewhat downtrodden this month and simply lounging took on an unexpected amount of importance to me, I often went really minimal with my makeup. That meant a bit of tinted moisturiser, some concealer and a bit of this, either to add a really pale and glowy flush to my cheeks or simply used as a sheen on my cheekbones. I'm usually a bit picky with cream products, but this doesn't disrupt makeup or leave you feeling like you've dipped the sides of your face in honey. Not too shabby.

Catrice Camouflage Concealer in 005 - I've been using this concealer line for over a year now, I think. I previously used the colour 010, which is a near-perfect match for my skin tone, but not quite light enough to properly brighten up my under eyes and make me look less zombie-ish on tired days. I'm pretty sure this is a new shade, as I've repurchased the concealer so many times and never seen it prior to a few weeks ago. It's light enough to really brighten things up and leans slightly yellow, which is great for my skin tone. The downside is that this concealer line is not inclusive at all and now features a grand total of three shades. Here's to hoping they bring out more colours, as it really is a fantastic product!

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in In Demand - Last month I harped on about the shade Stepping Out; this month it's all about In Demand. Stepping Out is a deeper browny nude and In Demand is its pinker, peachier little sister. These finally launched in Zurich (only about year after they launched in the US, wooo) and sure enough, they've only released about ten shades. Predictably, the two shades I've been trying to get my hands on for the better part of a year, Out Loud (literally forget it, sold out everywhere, always) and Driver's Seat were not in that bundle. Not one to let an opportunity to buy lipstick pass me by, I picked up In Demand and was on my merry way. It isn't worlds apart to Stepping Out, but it is a bit of a softer hue. I've been pairing it with minimal makeup to offset the whole "I put zero effort into this look and didn't brush my hair" vibe.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Bond Girl - Another oldie, but I just had to include it. I'm not sure why, but I've been completely enamoured with this lipstick over the past month or so. I've always loved it, but truth be told, it's remained somewhat neglected in my drawers, since I realised that putting it in my bag meant compromising the rose gold tube, which has taken a bloody beating from my keys. In line with the minimal makeup theme I've had going on this month, I really liked dabbing this lightly onto my lips and blending the product in slightly with my finger. The result is a kind of rosy stain that works wonders at perking up my complexion. It now has it's own little area in my handbag, to shield it from the chaos that ensues in there.

So there we have it, my favourites from the last four weeks. I know this month the picks were far and few between, but like I said (about ten times in this post) having finished one internship and moved onto part time work, my effort and motivation levels have taken a hit. Lounging just doesn't really require a full face, y'know? Here's to more sun, pastels and ditching the coats!

Don't forget to follow along!
