New In: Fancy Balm Releases

Who doesn't love a good balm? Lip care was amongst my very first forays into the beauty world and by the age of about eleven, I'd proudly bought Claire's out of pretty much their whole Lip Smacker selection. I'm just a bit of a sucker for lip balm. Whilst my motto is usually cheap and cheerful, I'm certainly not opposed to investing a pretty penny here and there to splurge on something a little higher end. I recently got my hands on some new(ish) and very fancy lip balm releases and thought I'd do a little show and tell!

Giorgio Armani Him/Her Lipcare - If we're talkin' fancy, these are pretty much up there. They're described as "a moisturizing and nourishing lip balm that is sure to appeal to women and men alike with a "My lips but better" result.". Seems a pretty standard claim. I think it's interesting that's it's marketed towards men and women alike, even though there are various shades in the collection. Pretty cool, if you ask me! The packaging left me slightly concerned that this would have more of a gloss texture, but the formula really is akin to that of a balm, just with a bit more of a glossy finish. I have the shades 1*, a clear balm, and 2*, which has a pretty, rosy tint to it. There's no discernible scent, they feel hydrating on the lips and wear really nicely!

Kiehl's Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF 25 - I'm a huge Kiehl's junkie, half my skincare is from the shelves of the carefully organised stores and I've been a long time fan of their original balm. Whenever I see a lip balm with SPF in it I'm a little wary, as they almost always taste like sunscreen, which, if you've ever gotten it in your mouth (hi, me. I eat sunscreen), you'll know tastes absolutely vile. Thankfully, that's not the case here at all, as far as I can tell! I even cautiously licked my lips after application. I have two shades, Touch of Berry* and the Untinted* version. The first is, predictably, a light, berry-toned tint and the other is just a clear balm. These leave less of a glossy finish than the Armani ones and smell faintly of plastic, which isn't terrible but not really my favourite scent either. They feel hydrating on the lips, bar the teensiest feeling of oiliness (although, that could just be me being fussy) and the packaging is nice and sturdy. In my books, if you can create a balm containing an SPF that high (lip SPF is important, people!) and not have it taste like poison, you've already kind of won.

All in all, two thumbs up from me for these new balms. If you're feeling a little fancy and would like to spend a little more on your lip care, I think both options are good ones! I actually started swatching these whilst taking photos, before realising how utterly stupid that was. Two are pinky tints and two are clear, hardly groundbreaking stuff! I hope that this has been somewhat helpful to you, if you're considering investing in a good quality balm! Have a fantastic weekend and happy Friday!
