KKW By Kylie Cosmetics Crème Liquid Lipstick

Following my first purchase from Kylie Cosmetics, I cooly promised myself I wouldn't give into the hype again. Enter the KKW By Kylie Cosmetics lipsticks and half the beauty world losing their shiz and I wasn't quite so cool anymore. There I was at midnight, wild-eyed, empty wine glass perched beside me, refreshing the Kylie Cosmetics Website like a madwoman. So yeah, totally not one for the hype. Long story short I purchased the lipsticks and sat there thrilled, fully okay with having to potentially wait a month for them to arrive on my doorstep.

I have to give mad credit to Kylie Cosmetics here: the lipsticks landed in my letterbox five days after I placed the order. Five. Days. From the US to Switzerland! I remember that being the case with my last order too and as with that, there were no customs charges here either. I've heard so many negative things about the customer service of the company, so much so that I really considered even making another order but I have to say, my experiences have been nothing but positive. Switzerland is on the more fussy side with ordering stuff online and I'm no stranger to a three-week wait but this was nothing short of fantastic in the shipping department!

So onto the actual products. This is a collaboration between Kylie Jenner and her sister Kim Kardashian West. It's a set of four lipsticks, each touting the label of Crème Liquid Lipstick. In true KKW style, they're all nudes and fairly similar ones at that. The product is housed in a frosted plastic tube, which I actually think looks quite pretty and the four lippies are nestled into a sturdy pink cardboard box.

So what is the formula, exactly? Although these are advertised as liquid lipsticks, it's the "crème" part that you've got to pay attention to. These aren't matte, they don't dry down and they're not long lasting. In fact, they're less long lasting than some of my glosses. They are, however, not marketed anywhere as being long lasting so there's no issue there.

There are four shades in here:

Kimmie - a "deep nude"

Kiki - a "pinky nude"

Kim - a "peachy nude"

Kimberly - a "true nude"

If you're wondering if they don't all look kinda similar: yes, you would be correct. To the untrained eye (aka. those that don't buy and hoard nude lipsticks) these are all slight variations of the same thing. When swatched and applied to the lips, however, you can definitely see the subtle differences between the shades.

Although these are pigmented, they don't go opaque in just one swatch because the formula is much lighter than your average liquid lipstick. They feel almost slightly greasy when you apply them. Not in an unpleasant way, but there's definitely way more slip to them than the average lipstick I've used. I haven't used these extensively yet, but so far I find that they work well over something else, be it a liner or a matte liquid lip. Used alone they'll wear off pretty much within the hour.

When the colour is on the lips, however, it does look really really pretty. I'm not sure what it is about these, but they kind of make your lips look smoother and more "perfected". The lines in your lips look reduced and the whole result is as if someones bit at your mouth with the blur tool in photoshop. There's also no detectable scent to them, so if you're someone who's put off by fragrance, these shouldn't bother you at all.

I have to say, I quite like these lipsticks. If you're a diehard matte lipstick fan and need your pout to be ultra long lasting, without budging during a blizzard or a pepperoni pizza eating contest then this probably just isn't the formula for you. I've found myself moving away from the super mattes and occasionally switching them for the comfort of a sheerer lip formula, so these are right up my street. As these are nudes, it's also not that dramatic if they wear off as you're eating, because they're so neutral that you can't really see a rim or anything else. They just exit center stage and leave you with a bare pout that you can easily top up at your leisure.

I purchased these during the second restock. They since seem to have disappeared from the Kylie Cosmetics website. On the postcard that was sent with the package, however, there was a (printed) note from the famous Kim herself featuring the sentence "I have a surprise coming soon!". Methinks this is an allusion to further product collaborations, where these lipsticks may well make another appearance. So if these have piqued your interest, keep your eyes peeled for updates on Kylie's social media.

I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on these lipsticks. Have you tried them? Have they tickled your fancy? Let me know!

  5. This it the first product of Kylie's that has really peaked my interest. I'm a huge sucker for nudes for day and night and barely reach for bright shades any more so I think these would be perfect for me. I also much prefer a comfortable formula that doesn't last as long now. x
