Shimmery Lip Picks from the Drugstore

I've touched on this before, but I used to run a mile at the sight of the slightest bit of shimmer in a lip product. Cut to the metallic lip trend happening and me looking like a space alien for a good few months. Needless to say, I've since embraced shimmer. It does, however, have to be a certain type for me to be on board. Anything chunky or gritty and it's a no from me. In the last few weeks, I've been gravitating more towards nude glossy finishes and products with amped up sheen to them. Not only does it work wonders in faking a fuller pout, it also adds somewhat of a bronzey glow to your whole makeup look. Since I've been so enamoured with them lately, I thought I'd round up four of my shimmery faves from the drugstore!

Catrice Luminous Lips in Good Nudes! - I've waxed lyrical about this lipstick formula before, so it'll come as no surprise that this is also on my hit list. These are formulated with hyaluronic acid, meaning they give your lips a pretty decent hydration boost. The finish is a glossy sheen that doesn't last ages, but is super fuss-free to reapply. This particular shade is a pretty, dusky pink with silver shimmer running through it. Doesn't sound like much, but it's surprisingly wearable and looks gorgeous with a natural makeup look.

Wet 'n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in Breeze - If you're a fan of pinky, rose gold metallic shades, then this colour might be right up your street. It's more of a shimmer than a straight up metallic, but it packs the same punch in terms of pigmentation. I'd say this is the least glossy of the bunch and it seems to stay put somewhat better because of that as well. This lipstick line is also ridiculously affordable, so if you fancy dipping your toes into the shimmer lipstick pool, this is a great place to start!

Wet 'n Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Rose Gold - Another one from Wet 'n Wild; this is fairly similar in shade, but somewhat deeper and less pink. The finish is definitely more metallic and glossier than Breeze, but both still have very impressive pigmentation for shimmer lip products. As can sometimes be the case with products containing shimmer, this can be just a smidge patchy upon application. Stick a lip liner under there and you're set!

Essence XXXL Shine in Glamour To Go - This is definitely the glossiest of the bunch, as you can see from the swatches. It's the most gorgeous champagney lip shade and although it gives off some 90's pale shimmer gloss vibes in the tube, I can assure you that's not the case! You do get a bit of a pearlised finish, but in the best way. It's a great way to add a little something extra to a makeup look, without drawing attention away from any other feature you're playing up. Not sticky and lightly hydrating to boot!

From left to right: Good Nudes!, Breeze, Rose Gold and Glamour To Go.
I'm not sure what's come over me with all this shimmer and gloss appreciation. I think shimmery lipsticks and glosses are products that I would never have thought I'd gravitate towards, but here we are, me on my little soapbox, glosses clutched firmly to my chest. If you have any other recommendations, please do leave them below. Have a fantastic weekend and happy Friday!

  2. I've never tried shimmer lippies before, I definitely want to TRY the Essence optional as they are easier to get my hands on.
